1867 – 1912

In 1867 the southern states, including Texas, were still undergoing a period of reconstruction following the Civil War. It was in this same year that Salado incorporated for the purpose of issuing bonds to build a wire cable suspension foot-bridge across Salado Creek. Also, during this year, Rev. James E. Ferguson acquired the Chalk Mill, built in 1848, and the mill became known as the Ferguson Mill.

Eagles beat Hargrave in three
Salado faces Jasper in Region III final
Salado Eagles will play Jasper in the 4A Region III baseball finals after beating Huffman Hargrave in a best-of-three series last week. Jasper beat the #3-ranked Robinson Rockets, 3-1, 5-9 and 13-1.
Salado and Jasper will play a best-of-three series with all games at Montgomery High School (22825 TX-105). Game 1 will be Thurs., May 31 at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be Sat., June 2 at 5 p.m. with Game 3 (if necessary) to follow 30 minutes after Game 2.

Saladoan pulls driver from burning cement truck

Salado native Allen Sirois was working on the loading dock at McGregor Welding Supply in Belton when he heard an explosion.
“The earth shook,” he said. “I’m not kidding. It sounded like a bomb.”

Memorial Day Service honors veterans buried in Salado cemeteries
The Salado Cemetery Association will host the annual Memorial Day Service at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 28 at the Historic Salado Cemetery on Baines Street. Everyone is invited to honor our veterans on this special day and pay tribute to their service to our country.

Eagles score six in fourth to run away from Hargrave

Salado Eagles poured on six runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to run away from the Huffman Hargrave Falcons in the first game of their best-of-three series May 24.
