With 35 seconds left on the clock, Grandview’s Nash Caudle tomahawked the ball out of Salado’s Seth Reavis hands as he was making his way across the goal line to break up what would have lifted Salado over the #4 Zebras, forcing a third down and 18.
After a scoreless first quarter, it was all Salado as the Eagles trounced the Troy Trojans 62-0 in the season opener Aug. 27 at University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s Crusader Stadium.

Head Coach Alan Haire
Salado Eagles’ stellar season came to an end at the Randall Reed stadium in New Caney ISD as the Carthage Bulldogs, 4A-Div. 1 State Champions, look to add a another championship to their string of seven under coach Scott Surratt. Carthage won the game handily, 35-7 and will face the China Spring Cougars for the Region III Championship.
Salado Eagles controlled the clock with their ground game and relied on its stiff defense to keep the powerful Bellville Brahmas from scoring in the final minute to win the Area round of the 4A-2 playoff match 28-23.
The Eagles ate five minutes off the clock on its opening drive, to set the standard for Coach Alan Haire’s slot-T offensive approach of “if the other team doesn’t get the ball a lot, they can’t score a lot.”
The Salado Football playoff game in College Station Fri. Nov. 13 has been canceled. Rusk High School forfeited the game due to players testing positive for COVID-19 and other players having to go under quarantine because of close contact.
Salado Eagles Football will advance to the Area round of playoffs next week and will be playing Bellville High School. Information on the date, time and location for the game is pending and will be updated when made available.
Superintendent Michael Novotny released the following statement for purchased tickets for the game.
“Those of you that have already purchased tickets can either use them next week for our playoff game against Bellville or you can bring them back to the high school office or Civic Center for a refund.”
