Darwin Hope Britt, 83, passed from this life into eternal rest and peace just before midnight on July 24, 2016. Darwin was born on March 19, 1933 in Amherst, Texas to Rufus Hayden and Noma nee Darwin Britt. He was graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952, and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He earned a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mathematics and Economics from Abilene Christian University in 1960.
Darwin married Carolyn Hearne on July 28, 1962, and together they welcomed three beautiful daughters. He worked for IBM for 13 years before relocating to Texas in 1974. In partnership with his dear friend, Lonnie Edwards, Darwin poured his heart and soul into the architectural design and construction of Salado Square and many area homes. Darwin also owned and managed a furniture design business and various real estate projects. He was active in church and community, serving as the President of the Salado Chamber of Commerce for two terms.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Edward Britt. He is is survived by Carolyn, his wife of almost 54 years; daughters Heather Carole Britt of Washington, D.C., Kendall Allison Britt and husband James Bray of Georgetown, TX, Paige Elizabeth Britt and husband Justin Pehoski of Georgetown, TX, and their “daughter of the heart” Vivianne Manneh of Washington, D.C.; as well as grandchildren Tanner and Carolyn Bray.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 in the Historic Chapel of Salado United Methodist Church. The family will welcome friends and community in the Atrium of the church for an ice cream reception in honor of Darwin’s guilty pleasure following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to World Vision, Habitat for Humanity, or Austin Graduate School of Theology.
