Salado varsity Eagles notched their first district win beating the Jarrell Cougars on the road Feb. 20, following a hard-fought loss to the Lampasas Badgers.
Four Eagles got the ball past the goalkeeper in Salado’s 4-1 district win on the road over Jarrell.
Goals were scored by forwards Brandon Rodriguez, Scout Puckett and Costas Loullis and defender Kaden Smein, coming on a penalty kick. Attacking midfielder Daniel Magadan had two assists in the game.
“This is the first district win for this team,” Coach Michael Goos said. “They worked together and played a competitive game against a determined Jarrell team.”
The win gives Salado a 9-7 and 1-1 district record as of presstime.
Salado fought a strong Lampasas squad at home, falling 2-1 on Feb. 17.
“Lampasas played a strong game against us,” Brandon Rodriguez said. “We were evenly skilled, the offense for our team connected very well. Although we came up short, I’m proud of my team’s hard work.”
Rodriguez, a forward, scored the only goal for Salado on an assist from forward Scout Puckett.
Salado traveled to Liberty Hill for a district match Feb. 24 (after presstime) and will play host to Gatesville in a non-district match Feb. 27.
