Meet the Eagles
Lone Star Cup will be presented during annual event on Aug. 24
The University Interscholastic League will honor Salado High School on Aug. 24 for its 2013 Class 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place at the Meet the Eagles Night at 7 p.m.
“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic and athletic programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”
With state championships in academics and girls golf, a state runner-up in boys cross country, third-place finishes at state one-act play and boys golf, and a state semifinalist in baseball, Salado earned 82 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2012-13 school year. The Eagles also earned Lone Star Cup points in boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer and softball. This is the second UIL Lone Star Cup victory for Salado High School.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Assistant Academic Director Jana Riggins will be on hand to make the presentation.
Prior to the trophy presentation, there will Big Red floats and raffle items in the SHS cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m.
Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Brent Graham will introduce the coaching staff, football and volleyball players, cross-country team, athletic trainers, cheerleaders, drum majors, twirlers and flag corps members.
