A Celebration of Life for Melissa (Missy) Gale Seward Allen will be held at 1:00 p.m. on November 16, 2013 at the home of her Uncle and Aunt, Terry and Shirley Rincon-Gober in Fort Worth, Texas. Missy died Thursday, October 17, 2013 in Nevada, MO.
Missy was born on November 10, 1969 at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska to James P. Seward of Academy, Texas and Linda Rincon Seward Lopez of Salado, Texas.
Missy attended Lanier Elementary and Jefferson Elementary in Temple, TX and then 6th grade at Key Elementary in Arlington, Texas. She also attended Gunn Jr. High School and Arlington High School, both also in Arlington, Texas. She received her G.E.D. in 1989. After high school, Missy attended and graduated from Draughon’s College of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas.
Missy married Bruce W. Allen of Buffalo, MO on August 7, 1992 and a daughter, Alexandria Allen, was born of this marriage. Missy was divorced at the time of her death and has lived in Missouri since 1991.
As a child, Missy was very athletic, playing soccer and softball but her love became Karate. She took Karate lessons from Richard Morris of Fort Worth, Texas and was 1983 Texas State Karate Champion of the blue/green belt division. In addition to her love of sports, Missy had a strong love of music that she learned while growing up in her musical family. Some of her greatest memories were of family gatherings where spontaneous musical jam sessions always occurred. She was also a very gifted poet and some of her greatest gifts included precious poems that she wrote for her loved ones and friends.
After graduating from Draughon’s College of Nursing in Fort Worth Missy worked in the Trauma Unit at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Unfortunately, an accident at the hospital left her disabled. Regardless of her disability, though, Missy never complained and was always the first to assist anyone who needed her help. She was loved by so many. Missy was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Clinton “Shorty” & Margaret “Peggy” Seward of Academy, TX; Lucio “Louie” and June LaNell Rincon of Fort Worth, TX; and maternal great-grandparents Ira & Jewel O’Dell of Temple, Texas.
Survivors include her daughter, Alexandria Rhea Allen of Strafford, MO, another daughter, Christine of Texas, her mother, Linda N. Lopez of Salado, Texas, her father, James P. Missy was also looking forward to her first grandchild, a boy, who will be born in early 2014.
The family askes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Missy’s name to the Disabled American Veterans. Missy had a strong love for her country and the fighting men and women that gave their all to ensure our daily freedom.
