Sibyl Williams Smith

June 15, 1923

February 2, 2015

Sibyl Williams Smith passed away on February 2, 2015.

She was born on the family farm in Milam County, Texas on June 15, 1923 to Simon Ernest Williams and Beulah McGuire Williams.

In 1931, the family moved to a farm in Prairie Dell and Sibyl graduated from Salado High School.

Before the end of World War II, she moved to Austin and rented a small house from Louise and Mark Burnett.

She met their son Mark Burnett Jr, when he returned from the war.  They married in 1946.

In addition to raising three children, Sibyl had an extended banking career in Austin.

She started at American National Bank and later worked for City National Bank, first as a teller and then head of checking processing.

After Mark’s death in 1981, Sibyl moved back to Salado to be closer to her brothers and sisters.

In 1989, she married Alfred “Bud” Smith, and they spent the next 25 years together.

Sibyl is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Wilma Williams, Billye Fuller, Thelma Pedigo, Patsy Hinsely, and brother Rev. E. Guinn Williams.

Survivors include her husband Bud Smith; brother Truett Williams; children Jack Burnett (Sandy), Jimmie Burnett (Brendan Kenny), and Mary Louise Zaiontz (Ed); three grandchildren Wade Burnett (Rusti), Dionne Burnett and Lesley (John) Estes, and four great grandchildren.

Sibyl is also survived by Bud’s daughter Karen Jo Elm, Bud’s son Charlie Smith, and Bud’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services were held at Feb. 6 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.

A private graveside service followed in Austin.
