All four campuses have been adopted by units from Fort Hood
We greatly appreciate the sacrifice of our veterans, active duty military, and first responders. We have 173 students that are children of active duty military, which represents almost 10% of our 1,856 students.
All of our four schools have been adopted by units of the 3rd Calvary Regiment (Brave Rifles) at Fort Hood:
Thomas Arnold Elementary – 1st (Tiger) Squadron
Salado Intermediate School – 2nd (Sabre) Squadron
Salado Junior High School – 3rd (Thunder) Squadron
Salado High School – 4th (Longknife) Squadron
We also partner with Angelica Salinas, the School Liaison Officer with the Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation at Fort Hood.
Our annual “Freedom Walk” event will be this Thursday, November 9, at 9:30 a.m. at our athletic stadium. This event is to honor all of our veterans, active duty military, and first responders, including fire fighters, paramedics, and law enforcement personnel. All of our students and employees will be in attendance, and all parents and community members are also invited to attend.
The 3rd Calvary Regiment Longknife Squadron Honor Guard will present the colors. Everyone will participate in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the singing of our National Anthem by the Salado High School choir.
Brigadier General Jason Walrath will be our speaker. General Walrath became the Deputy Commanding General, US Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, in September of 2016. General Walrath has a Bachelor’s of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and a Master’s degree in National Security Studies from the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA. He’s had numerous assignments in the United States to include overseas tours in Korea, the United Kingdom, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and recently visited China as a CAPSTONE fellow at the National Defense University in Washington D.C. He is an Airborne Ranger and Master Army Aviator having flown numerous helicopter and fixed wing military aircraft over a 28 year career. In his civilian capacity he is a commercial pilot for United Airlines. Most importantly he is Kathi’s husband and father to Olivia and “the Kicker” (Jake Walrath, the place kicker on our varsity football team).
General Walrath’s speech will be followed by a moment of silence and the retiring of the colors. Then all veterans (including the Henry T. Waskow Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Belton), active duty military, firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement personnel will lead all of our students and employees on our one mile freedom walk. All parents and community members are invited to join us for our annual Freedom Walk event this Thursday, November 9, at 9:30 a.m. as we honor our veterans, active duty military, and first responders.
