Caine Cruddas passed the ball across the goal to senior Luke Anderson who put it in the net with 7:02 left in the first overtime for the game-winning goal to give Salado its first state soccer championship April 10 against the Rivers Oaks Castleberry. The Eagles won 3-2.

It’s not the way Coach Jared Cruddas wanted his Salado Eagles to get to the 4A, Division. 1 State Finals, but less than 10 minutes before the Eagles were to play the undefeated Progreso Red Ants at San Antonio’s Comalander, the UIL State Executive Committee (SEC) ruled that the Red Ants would forfeit their entire season.

Salado Eagles soccer (22-3-3) will face undefeated Progreso (30-0) in the 4A, Div. 1 state semi-final at 7 p.m. April 4 at Comalander Stadium in San Antonio. The Eagles are Region III champions after defeating Lumberton 2-1 in Navasota March 31.

Salado Lady Eagles (27-3) will face the San Antonio Davenport Lady Wolves in the 4A, Div. 1 State Semi-final at 7 p.m. April 4 at Dripping Springs High School, 940 US 290, Dripping Springs, TX 78620. Davenport is the Region IV champion. They were second in District 26-4A, behind Wimberley.
