Laws, Lyndol Jay

Services for Laws June 17

Lyndol Jay Laws, 64, of Salado, passed away June 9 in Harker Heights.

Laws was born in Seymour, TX on June 20, 1941, the son of the late Clyde and Alian Laws.

He is survived by his daughter Shari Watkins, of Kingwood, TX, son William Laws, of Saint Jo, TX, and sister, Mary Frances McFadden, of Dallas. He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. June 17, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, in Salado.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Scott & White Development Office, 2401 S. 31st St., Temple, Tx 76508.

Johnson, Robert M.

Services held for Johnson

Services for Retired LTC Robert M. Johnson, 81, of Salado were held June 2 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

He was born Oct. 16, 1924 in Anson, TX to Albert S. Johnson and Marion Louise Smith Johnson. He married Adelle Turner in 1942 in Stamford, TX. Johnson enlisted in the United States Air Force on Feb. 9, 1943 and received his pilot’s training Aug. 4, 1944. His military awards include the commendation ribbon, the bronze star medal (twice), the air medal (twice) and the legion of merit medal.

Survivors include his wife, Adelle Turner John-son, of Salado; one son, Ronald Johnson, of Burnet; two daughters, Linda Hutchison, of Grove City, OH and Lana Rowland, of Beaufort, SC; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Salado United Methodist Church building fund.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.

Wallace, Jessie Merle

Wallace services held May 30

Services for Jessie Merle Wallace, 98, of Seguin and formerly of Belton were held May 30 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Darren Walker. Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery south of Belton.

She was born on November 2, 1907 in Bell County to I.T. Harrell and Jessie Allamon Harrell. Wallace was a lifetime resident of Bell County. She graduated from Holland High School, and later graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

She married William Gran Wallace on Sept. 2, 1934 in Lubbock. Wallace taught school in Belton and Salado. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton, where she was in the Patterson Open Door class and a member of the United Methodist Women. In addition, she was a member of the Bell County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors include one son, Don Wallace, of Seguin; one daughter, Peggy Harlan, of Pottsboro; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1977, one daughter, Patti Hall, in 1992; and two sisters, Rubby Ann Baker, in 2003, and Tommie Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Belton.

Michael, Dan Pearson

Services for Michael held May 10

Services for Dan Pearson Michael, of Cedar Park, were held May 10 in the Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock. Interment followed in the Palm Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery. Michael died May 6 in Georgetown.

He was born Feb. 3, 1930 in San Antonio, to Chester and Elvira (Pearson) Michael, both of Round Rock.

Michael lived a large part of his life on the family farm south of Round Rock. He lived five years at Community Care Group Home in Cedar Park and lived his last six years at New Hope Manor in Cedar Park.

Survivors include brothers, Jim Michael and wife Majella, of Salado, Terrance (Terry) Michael and wife Beth, of Mountain City, TN, and Billy Michael, of Florence; nieces, Sharon and Kathy Michael, of Salado, Becky Daily, of Austin, Kristy Heitzmann, Diana Jacobson, Katrina Hughes and Krista Michael; nephews, John, David, and Jeffrey Michael, and also their mother, Judy Michael. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Chester Michael.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palm Valley Lutheran Church, 2500 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock, TX 78664.

Bostic, Sue Childers

Vivian Bostic passes away on April 11

Vivian Sue Childers Bostic, 66, passed away on April 11, 2006 in Up-state Carolina Medical Center, Gaffney, South Carolina.

A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Albert (Al) Bostic Sr. and daughter of the late Claude Childers. She was formerly employed by Texas Instruments for 19 years as a security administrator.

Bostic was past president of the Sertoma Club and was of the Baptist faith.

Also surviving are a son, Kenneth Allen Bostic Sr., of Gaffney; a daughter, Rita Oden and husband, Mike, of Salado, : a brother, Allan Childers and wife, Joyce, of Virginia; two sisters, Doris Scruggs and husband Odis, of Lattimore, N.C., and Martha Mendez and husband, Jose, of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Betty Childers of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren, Brandy McCord, Amber Bostic, Angie Bostic, Josh Brown, Matt Brown, Jake Brown, Tara Evans, Josh Oden, Jake Oden and Kenneth Bostic Jr.; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bostic was preceded in death by her son, Albert Bostic Jr.; a brother, Jimmy Childers; and a sister, Mary Hall-man.

Services were held at Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Bostic, Jolene Coyle and Lt. Col. Dick Norris officiating. Internment was in Fredrick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church building fund, P. O. Box 736, Salado, TX 76571.

Boysen, George W.

George Boysen graveside service held at Salado Cemetery April 22

Graveside services for George W. Boysen, 76 of San Diego, California, were held 2 p.m. April 22, in Salado Cemetery. Mr. Boysen died April 5, 2006. He was born June 28, 1929, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Herbert and Edna Boysen.

Boysen served as a Chief Warrant Officer in Korea and as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He retired from military in 1975.

Boysen was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Boysen in 1981, by his parents, and by his brother, Herb Boysen.

Survivors are his son, Chris Boysen of Salado, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Harlan Boysen of Waterloo, Iowa, Jim Boysen of California, and four sisters, Doris Blake and Melba Merrill both of San Diego, California, Vera Scroggy of Colorado and Joann Hampton.

Dossman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ogden, Emma Faye

Services held for Emma Faye Ogden

Funeral services for Emma Faye Ogden, 79, of Salado, were held March 6 at Scanio Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Theiss Jones officiating. Burial as at St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles, MO.

Ogden died March 3 in a Temple health care center.

She was born in Monette, AR, to Will Smothers and Raynee Blyte-Smothers. She lived in St. Charles County, MO, most of her life and was a homemaker and worked for St. Regis Paper Company in St. Louis. She married Charles Og-den in April, 1978. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Young, of Salado; one brother, Elvin Smothers, of Paragould, AR; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Billington, Kristi Marie

Memorial services held for Kristi Marie Billington

Kristi Marie Billington, 19, of Salado, died February 24, 2006 in a Temple hospital.

Memorial services were held at the First Baptist Church of Salado on Feb. 27.

Kristi Billington graduated from Salado High School. She was at-tending the University of Mary Hardin Baylor as a freshman, majoring in Christian Studies. She accepted Christ as her savior in 1993 and surrendered her life to the ministry after a mission trip in 2004. She was on the Dean’s List at UMHB, a First Year Council member and worked in the First Baptist Church of Salado girls ministry.

She is survived by her parents, Ricky and Meschill Billington, of Salado; her sister Mattie Billington, of Salado; her grandparents, Royce and Alma Billington and David and Darlene Stevens, and a great-grandmother, Faye Billington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kristi Billington Christian Scholarship Fund at UMHB.

Gandy, Marguerite C.

Services held for Marguerite C. Gandy

Marguerite C. Gandy, 92, of Salado passed away Jan. 25. She was born to the late Adolphus and Minnie Childress on November 23, 1913 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Woodrow W. Gandy. She is survived by her children, Patricia L. Rice, and husband Mark, Karen A. Kearns, and husband, Skipper, David H. Gandy, and wife Mary Jo; five grandchildren, and seven great-grand-children.

Marguerite was an artist and teacher. She at-tended the New York Art Academy, was involved in a garden club, the Salado Village Artists, and the ladies auxiliary.

She wrote poetry, fished, and sewed.

Services were held Jan. 28 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel of Temple with Pastor Terry Tipps officiating. Interment followed at the Salado Cemetery.

If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Marguerite’s honor.

Merrill, Robert E.

Services held for Robert E. Merrill, 80

Robert E. Merrill, M.D., 80, of Salado, died January 11, 2006 at his home in Salado. A memo-rial service was held Jan. 14 at St. Frances Episcopal Church in Temple with Rev. Merry R. Wilburn officiating.

Dr. Merril was born in Johnstown, Penn to Erle and Edna Bowers Mer-rill. He married Patricia MacDonald. She preceded him in death in November 2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He served on the Salado Independent School District Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2002. He was Vice-President of the school board for two years, 2000 and 2001. Dr. Merrill was instrumental in getting two school bonds passed while serving on the board: one in 1998 for the intermediate school and one in 2000 for renovations of the schools. He wrote a handbook for school board members and established the Master Teacher Award in Salado I.S.D. He also planted the seed for the Salado Education Foundation.

Dr. Merrill is survived by three daughters, Susan Wallens, of Baltimore, Maryland, Nancy Wilson, of Kansas City, Kansas and Kathleen Jackson, of Looettsville, Virginia; one son, Forrest Merrill, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Jane Kraus, of Akron, Ohio, and six grand-children.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Creek Preservation, c/o Salado Historical Society, PO Box 251, Salado, TX 76571; the Pediatric Department of Vanderbilt University, or VistaCare Hospice, 2626 S. 37th St., Temple, TX 76504.
