Trey Ripke proves to be undoing of Eagles

Navarro’s Trey Ripke proved to be the undoing of the Salado Eagles as he contributed heavily to the two wins the Panthers took from Salado in their best-of-three series May 7-9. Ripke closed the third game and pitched for the win in the second game, as well as getting crucial hits in the two wins.

Salado ends its season with a District Championship and 20-7 record.

Lady Eagles fall to La Vernia in playoffs

La Vernia swept the Salado Lady Eagles in the bi-district round of the 4A UIL softball playoffs on May 1-2, ending Salado’s season. The La Vernia Lady Bears are the 26-4A District Champions. They will face Columbus in the Area round of the playoffs.

Salado was the fourth-place team in District 25-4A, which had three top 20 teams in it — Burnet, Lampasas and Liberty Hill — that finished in a three-way tie for the championship. All three beat their first round opponents.

Burnet beat Goliad 3-2 and 4-1. Lampasas beat Cuero 10-0 and 9-2. Liberty Hill beat Yoakum 5-0 and 14-1.

Eagles take district crown with 3-1 win over Taylor Ducks

With a 3-1 win at home over the Taylor Ducks April 28, Salado won District 25-4A outright finishing the regular season 17-5 and district 8-2. They will face the fourth place team in District 26-4A in the first round of the playoffs.

Salado sits atop district, faces Taylor in finale

Salado Eagles had 10 hits and as many runs in their dominant win over the Burnet Bulldogs April 21 to remain tied with Taylor Ducks for first place in District 25-4A with two games remaining.

The Eagles will host Llano April 24 and likely finish the season in a fight with Taylor for the outright district championship. Both teams have two district losses, including one against each other. Taylor faces bottom-dwelling Lampasas at home April 24.

Taylor Ducks take Eagles into extra innings

The Taylor Ducks took Salado to extra innings, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth to win their district game against the Eagles, despite being outhitted by the visiting team April 10.

Katy Ewton got two quick goals in the early part of the first period to lead the Salado Lady Eagles past the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies 3-1 in the Region IV quarterfinal soccer match April 7.
