Services for Gwen McCarthy, 85, of Salado will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday December 27, 2011 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Temple. 

Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX.  Visitation will be at Broecker Funeral Home on Monday, December 26 at 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

 

Gwen was born on August 09, 1926 to Arthur Morden and Louise McIver on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada.  The family moved to Saginaw, MI where Gwen married Ed Kabobel and raised three children.

 

She began her career working for Russell Electric Co., as an accountant, then for Manpower, Inc. as an area manager.  Appointed by the Governor of Michigan Gwen  became the Executive Director of Tourism and Convention Commission, traveling throughout Michigan and the US, promoting the State of Michigan.

 

She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the National Association for female executives.

 

Gwen held many positions in her church.  She was a member of the Ladies Guild in Saginaw, Altrusa, and a volunteer at the Saginaw General Hospital. 

 

Gwen is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Thomas J. McCarthy of Salado; Arnold Kellams and Ed Kabobel.  Daughter: Marlene Brownlee; Sisters: Fay, Kathy, and Carol and  Brothers Edward, John and James.

 

She is survived by Daughter Fay Sudhoff and husband Paul of Saginaw, MI; Son Ed Kabobel and wife Kathy of Temple; Sisters: Ruth of MI, Bess of NY; Brother: Art of FL,   Grandchilden: Lisa and Scott Sherrillo of Cedar Park, TX; Paul David and Lisa Sudhoff, Peter Sudhoff and Patrick Sudhoff of Saginaw, MI; Jennifer and David Smith of Ok., Darrell Brownlee of FL., and Brett Brownlee of GA., and Meagan and Patti Kabobel of Temple, TX.

 

In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Luke Catholic Church, Temple or the American Diabetes Association.

 

Services are under the care and guidance of Broecker Funeral Home, Salado, TX
