Judy Echols Lazarus

December 30, 1944

October 18, 2024

Judy Echols Lazarus passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at her residence in Belton, TX.  She was born on December 30, 1944, in Big Spring, TX.  She was raised with a great Christian family in Coahoma, TX.  She had a brother, W. Ray Echols, and two sisters, Amy Lee Purcell and Janie Phinney.  Judy graduated from Coahoma High School and attended Howard College in Big Spring, TX.

She married Steve Lazarus on October 24, 1965. They had two sons: Stephen Paul and Michael Lee.

The family lived in Harrisburg, PA, and Columbia, MD, for ten years.  In 1976, they moved to Belton, TX.

Judy had a passion for singing in several church choirs, Sweet Adelines, and the Salado Community Chorus.

She was a very devoted mother to two sons and a devoted wife of 59 years.  The family was blessed to travel to all 50 states in a family camper.

Judy, also, enjoyed cooking and good food was served in our home under her loving care.  As Me-me, she was very proud of her loving grandchildren including: LeeAnn Judy Trinidad of Hutto, TX, Michael Wayne of Belton, TX, Harrison Quinn, Gia Lauren of Houston, TX, and Jed Lazarus of North Carolina.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Belton, TX for 20 years and a member of New Life Methodist Church for 2 years.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Amy and Leroy Echols of Coahoma, TX in 1979, and her son, Stephen Paul of Houston, TX, in 2005.  She was very proud to be a part of three generations that were married for more than fifty years.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to: New Life Methodist Church, PO Box 1322, Salado, TX 76531, or a favorite charity.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Broecker Funeral Home of Salado, on Saturday, October 26, 10:00 am; service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Tom Lathen officiating.

A family meal will be served at the Salado Civic Center following the service.
