Lady Eagles sweep #3 team in state

Salado Lady Eagles are alone at the top of District 24-4A with a 3-0 record after sweeping the #3-ranked Gateway College Prep Lady Gators on their home court Sept. 20.

The win moves Salado back into the top 10 rankings this week by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, where they are ranked #8 with a 26-6 record, 3-0 in district as of presstime on Sept. 24.

Salado swept Gateway Prep 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22 in a home game Sept. 20.

Mazzy Johnson and Macy Morris led the girls with two aces each, followed buy Charli Niu and Payton Ortega, one each.

Kael Wilcox had 16 kills to lead the girls, followed by Haley Brown, 10, Niu, Ortega and Elsie Law, five each, Morris, four, Johnson and Kate Maedgen, one each.

Morris and Wilcox each had a block.

Niu had 26 assists, followed by Brown and Shelby Hollywood, three each; Johnson, Wilcox, Maedgen and Law, one each.

Niu made eight digs to lead Salado, followed by Johnson, seven, Hollywood, six, Brown and Maedgen, five each, Ortega, four,  Morris, three, and Wilcox, Law and Kaylee Bragg, one each.

The Burnet Lady Bulldogs took Salado to extra points in the second set, but the Lady Eagles were able to sweep Burnet for the district win Sept. 17.

Haley Brown had three aces to lead the girls, followed by Charli Niu, two and Macy Morris, Kaylee Bragg and Shelby Hollywood, one each.

Kael Wilcox led the girls with 14 kills, followed by Elsie Law, 10, Brown, eight, Mazzy Johnson, seven, Niu, four, and Morris, two.

Morris had seven blocks to lead Salado, followed by Johnson, four and Law, Brown and Niu, two each.

Niu made 32 assists, followed by Morris, Hollywood, Wilcox, Brown, Kate Maedgen and Karlee Konarik, one each.

Hollywood led the girls with 13 digs, followed by Johnson, 10, Brown, seven, Niu, Wilcox and Konarik, five each, Maedgen three, Bragg, two and Law, one.

Salado JV Lady Eagles Red team split games against  Gateway College Prep and Burnet last week.
