Public and private gardens part of Garden Tour on October 8

As we come to the end of summer, let’s think forward to October and touring Salado’s outstanding public and private gardens.

Keep Salado Beautiful, sponsor of this year’s tour, will feature six public gardens including the Salado Public Library Garden, St. Joseph’s Episcopal Chapel and Garden, Green Bridge Garden, College Hill Park, Salado United Methodist Church Historic Chapel and Garden and of course, the Sculpture Garden.

Robertson Plantation opens doors for special Gala

Gala affair will benefit Salado Historical Society, Central Texas Area Museum and Robertson Colony-Salado College Foundation

The Ambrose and Cowan families, sixth generation owners of the Robertson Plantation and descendents of E.S.C. Robertson, are hosting a gala to benefit historic preservation in Salado on 7-10 p.m. Dec. 3.

The Gala affair will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by The Range at the Barton House and live music by Pam Bland and Drs. Matt Rogers and Guy Okeson.

College ruins were preservation crisis for Salado

“It was the biggest preservation crisis the town had or may ever have to face,” Dr. Douglas B. Willingham said.

For decades since the 1924 fire which finally did in the two-story limestone building, the old Salado College fell into ruin and neglect.
