New coach Tara Hatfield’s Lady Eagles volleyball team have started out with a 2-4 record, with its losses coming at the hands of 3A and 5A schools. The Lady Eagles beat Jarrell and Florence, 2A foes in the Gatesville Tournament, where Salado went 2-1 in three rounds, losing to Round Rock Christian in the first round.

Salado students join 3d Cav for Freedom Walk
FORT HOOD, Texas– On the twelfth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Salado students, along with local law enforcement and fire fighters, will join with troopers from the 3d Cavalry Regiment to honor the sacrifices of so many brave individuals that day by completing a Freedom Walk.

New traffic laws go into effect
New Traffic, Criminal Laws Take Effect Sept. 1
AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today highlighted notable traffic and criminal laws that go into effect on Sept. 1, 2013.
“As a result of these new provisions, Texans now have additional protection while traveling our roadways, and individuals who disregard our laws will face tougher penalties for a variety of crimes,” said traffic lawyers. “DPS encourages all residents to educate themselves about the laws affecting their lives and to do their part in keeping Texas safe.”
New Legislation to Support Victims of Fort Hood Shooting
KILLEEN- U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), Congressman John R. Hasan sentenced to death
FORT HOOD, Texas — In the court-martial of U.S. vs. Maj. Nidal M. Hasan, he was sentenced to death Aug. 28 following panel deliberations which lasted less than two hours here.

WACO — On Wednesday, August 28, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday morning, August 29 all northbound and southbound mainlanes near FM 2484 in Salado will be closed.
UPDATE: The overpass of FM 2484 at I-35 will CLOSE at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in preparation for this mainlane closure and bridge work. Please seek alternate routes.
Burt Smith is named Principal of Year
“His greatest gift is the ability to build positive relationships with students, employees, parents and all other stakeholders,” Dr. Michael Novotny said of Salado High principal Burt Smith.
That gift is one of the reasons Smith was recently named by the 2013 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as the Region 12 High School Principal of the Year. Smith will find out later this year if he will be named as the State High School Principal of the Year.

The University Interscholastic League will honor Salado High School on Aug. 24 for its 2013 Class 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place at the Meet the Eagles Night at 7 p.m.
