Circle of time reminds us to learn from our history/heritage
Yesterday, a Paul Harvey commentary came to mind. Though not remembered exactly, he said:
“It’s testing time, again.
Storms are part of the normal climate. There are also other storms — financial, drought, civil strife, war, and health. They are part of nature, too.
Times do not change; time goes in a circle. Look at recession, depression, civil strife, or anything else; we’ve been there before and we passed the test.”
Such is true of Salado. We may think we are the only ones to have “walked through the fire.” We are not. Being tested is part of our history, our heritage. Each time we became stronger, smarter, and confident.
A history lesson. It is recorded that when the Israelites crossed into Canaan, Joshua commanded a dozen men to return to the riverbed, and find 12 rocks. Joshua took the rocks and stacked them on each other. Why?
Joshua knew the people would be tested, again. The stones would serve as a reminder to:
Remember your history and heritage. Face the future by remembering the past. Your ancestors made it; so will you.
Remember who you are. You do not merely endure; you overcome and conquer. Your spirit is one of confidence and achievement. You are proven and rock-solid.
Remember where you are going. It will not be easy. There will be attacks and storms, but keep the vision. Do not let others steal it with tales of doom-and-gloom. They have only two objectives: make you afraid and build their ego.
Greatness is not a guarantee; it is a continuing challenge. It must be won anew with each generation. Salado is more than a Village of buildings and relics; it is a strong-hold of resilient people.
It may be a-time-of-testing but you’ve been there before and passed with flying colors. You will now, too. Time goes in a circle.
