This month the Salado Independent School District was awarded the Postsecondary Readiness Distinction Designation. This is the only distinction that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) awards to school districts.
There are nine indicators that the TEA analyzes to determine which districts qualify for this distinction:
1.The percentage of students at all of our campuses that perform at or above grade level on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) examinations
2.Our four year longitudinal graduation rate
3.Our four year longitudinal graduation plan rate (i.e., the percentage of students graduating on the higher graduation plans)
4.The percentage of our high school graduates that are college ready
5.The percentage of our high school students that complete an advanced or dual-credit course
6.Our high school students’ performance on Advanced Placement (AP) examinations
7.The percentage of our high school students that participate in the SAT and/or ACT examinations
8.The performance of our high school students on the SAT and ACT examinations
9.The percentage of our high school graduates that complete one or more coherent sequences of Career Technology Education (CTE) courses
The majority of these indicators are determined at the high school level. However, our elementary school, intermediate school, and junior high school teachers and staff are just as much as part of this recognition because they prepare all of our students for success when they get to high school.
There are 1,216 school districts in Texas and we are one of only 58 districts (fewer than 5%) that received this recognition. Out of the 159 school districts in Central Texas (Austin/Waco regions) we are only of only six districts that received this recognition. We are the only school district to receive this recognition out of all twelve districts in Bell County.
Congratulations to all of our students, parents, employees, and community members for this prestigious award. I hope all of our students have an outstanding 2017-2018 school year!
