Rajun Brit Owen age 14 of Salado, died December 23, 2000 at his home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Dec. 27, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Salado. Minister Edd Melton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Cemetery west of Salado.
Rajun was born Sept. 26, 1986 in Temple, to Brit and Shannon Rauschen-berg Owen. Rajun was a student at Salado Intermediate School.
Survivors include his parents, one sister Kegan Laramie Owen of Salado; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Jana Owen of Salado and maternal grandparents Charles and Judy Schoepf, of Mound, and Bryan and Sherazan Rauschenberg of Gatesville.
Dulaney, Opal Irene
Opal Irene Dulaney passes away at age 87
Service for Opal Irene Wilson Dulaney, age 87 of Belton were held Dec. 23 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bobby Baggett and Minister Joe Baisden officiating. Burial followed in the North Belton Cemetery.
Mrs. Dulaney died Dec. 21 in a Belton nursing home.
She was born on June 7, 1913 to John S. and Carrie Lou Smith Wilson of the Summers Mill Community. She was a descendant from the Pioneer Bell County family of S. S. Wilson. Mrs. Dulaney attended school in Holland. She married Marvin A. Dulaney on May 2, 1930 in Durant, Okla. In 1950, they moved from Salado to Belton, where they owned and operated retail businesses. In recent year , she had been active in the Belton Senior Center, and in volunteering in a nursing home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 1967 and by a daughter, Carolyn Dulaney Doyal in 1970.
She is survived by a son, John Rance Dulaney and his wife, Janie; and a daughter Betty Crowson and her husband Jack, all of Belton; a sister Jessie L. Ferrell of Temple; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mitchell, Shawn Floyd
Shawn Floyd Mitchell passes away Nov. 25
Funeral services for Shawn Floyd Mitchell, age 21 of Salado were held Nov. 28, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Salado with Rev. Brian Dunks officiating. Burial followed at the Salado Cemetery.
Shawn Floyd Mitchell died Nov. 25, 2000 in a Temple hospital.
Shawn was born May 30, 1979 in Temple to Don and Georgie (Moon) Mitchell. He moved to Salado 7 years ago from Stamford, Texas. He graduated from Salado High school in 1998 and was active with golf and basketball. He was currently attending Temple College where he played on the golf team. Shawn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salado.
Survivors include his parents, Don and Georgie Mitchell of Salado; one brother, Drew Mitchell of Salado and his grandmother Irene Moon of Stamford.
Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the First Baptist Church in Salado.
Merrill, Patricia
Patricia Merrill passes away
Patricia Merrill, 74, died on November 21, 2000. She had been ill for almost three years following the discovery of a malignant brain tumor.
She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, raised in Angleton, Texas and graduated from John Sealy School of Nursing in 1947.
For the past 10 years she had participated actively in tests fo determine the quality of Salado Creek water. She also, along with her many friends, worked diligently to find ways to restore the purity of the creek water.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Robert Merrill and by their four children: Susan Wallens of Baltimore, Maryland; Nancy Wilson of Overland Park, Kansas; Kathleen Jackson of Fair fax, Virginia and Forrest Merrill of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Additional survivors include six grandson and three sisters: Elizabeth Silverthorne of Salado, Marjorie Berndt of Houston and Geneva Fulgham of Houston.
In lieu of flowers, her friends may wish to contribute in her name to one of the following:
Salado Historical Society for the Creek Preservation Committee, St. Joseph’s Chapel building Fund or Vista Care Hospice Foundation in Temple.
McKeon, Louis D “Mac”
Louis D. “Mac” McKeon dies at age 77 on Nov. 29
Funeral services for Louis D. “Mac” McKeon age 77 of Salado will be held 10 a.m. Nov. 29 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Father Larry Heimsoth officiating.
Burial with full military honors wiII be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Nov. 30.
He died November 25, 2000 at a Temple hospital.
Mr. McKeon was born November 8, 1923 in Orange, New Jersey. He served in the United States Army for 27 years and received the following medals; EAME Service medal with three battle stars, Good Conduct Medal with three silver Loops, WW II Victory Medal, Five overseas bars, meritorious unit citation, bronze star medal with oak leaf cluster, air medal. Army commendation medal with oak leaf cluster, Vietnam service medal with three bronze service stars, republic of Vietnam campaign medal, Vietnam cross of gallantry with palm, sharpshooter rifle, national defense service medal with oak leaf cluster. Mr. McKeon was a life member of Henry T. Waskow VFW 4008 of Belton and held the office of Quartermaster for five years. After retiring from the army he was in law enforcement for 19 years. Mr. McKeon married Janet Frazier June 23, 1989 in Missouri.
McKeon is survived by his wife, Janet McKeon of Salado; 5 children, Linda McKeon of Waco, Can-dance Hawks of Belton, Stephanie Howell of Temple, Michelle Winingar of Columbia, MO and Kevm McKeon of Holland; four step-children, Michael Claypool, U.S. avy. Troy Claypool Smithville, 10, Dennis Claypool and Darrin Claypool, both of Temple; 17 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dossman Funeral Home of Belton is in charge of the arrangements.
