On April 17, Grace Church Salado launched the first of 14-weekly sessions of an international program called “Grief Share”. This program is open to the greater Salado community, as well as those at Grace Church. 

Grief Share consists of a network of 15,000- churches worldwide equipped to offer grief support groups. The program is nondenominational and features biblical concepts for healing from a person’s grief. Each support group meets weekly; where the typical program consists of an instructional video, small group discussion and a workbook. As each session is a “self-contained” module, individuals can join in at any of the 14 weekly sessions. The only cost would be for the workbook ($20).

Leading the Salado group is Mary Hendrix, MTh., who has served for over 20 years as a hospice Chaplain in a large hospital system. In her role as Hospice Spiritual Care Manager, she coordinated the chaplain department, which included bereavement services, music therapy and the volunteer program. As a chaplain, she ministered to dying patients and spiritually supported their loved ones and caregivers. Over the years of her professional career, she performed numerous funerals and memorial services.

Her other interests include serving six years as a volunteer police chaplain, as well as starting and directing a non-profit ministry in California to street prostitutes. In Texas, for several years she served as the Executive Assistant to the President of the International Fellowship of Chaplains, headquartered in Temple.
