Congratulations to Salado High School eleventh grade student Zack Shaver and Salado High School science teacher Katy Leiskau for being recognized by Congressman John R. ‘Judge’ Carter from our Texas Congressional District 31. Zack was recognized as a “Carter A-Lister” and Katy Leiskau was recognized as a Carter Educator.
As a junior in high school attending Salado, this is Zack’s third high school and he continues to maintain an excellent spirit and academic profile in spite of the fact that his father is currently deployed to Iraq. Zack has a strong desire to honor a fallen combat veteran and attend one of the most prestigious colleges in America – West Point. Zack continues to amaze his teachers and coaches with his high level of resilience while overcoming the fact that he seems to always be ‘the new kid’ in town. Zack has a love for learning that shows in his rigorous academic schedule, that he, himself has chosen to follow since the fifth grade in order to attend the college of his choice. Zack has recently been accepted into the Summer Program at West Point and eagerly awaits attending without hesitations.
Katy Leiskau and her family live in Salado and she is finishing her second year teaching in our school district. Katy and her husband, James, have two sons attending our schools – Jaxson in seventh grade and Luke in third grade. Katy is fabulous at creating a tight sense of community and belonging in the classroom enabling students to feel safe and supported allowing them to focus on the most important part of their day – learning. Each student in her classroom knows that they are able to share, if needed, their concerns as well as cut up and have a good time while maintaining high academic expectations for each student.
Congratulations to both Zack Shaver and Katy Leiskau for these recognitions from Congressman John Carter!
