The Malheur National Wildlife Refuge hasn’t heretofore been known as a locus of government tyranny or much of anything else. Saying that the refuge, established in 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt, is in the middle of nowhere makes it sound too centrally located. It is in Southeastern Oregon, about 30 miles from the nearest town of Burns, population 2,722.
Political signs are everywhere signaling election time. This year, the Mayor and 2 Aldermen/lady’s positions are on the ballot.

After months of off and on again negotiations, executive meetings, about agreements on the sewer land donation, building of the sewer plant, drafting boundaries, tax abatements, and countless studies, final legal paperwork was completed and signed between Mayor Blancett and the Sanctuary owner on November 26, 2015. All well and good for you.
Playing 5A and 6A teams, the Salado Eagles soccer team went 1-3 in the Temple soccer tournament Jan. 8-9.
