“Thank you” for the honor of being selected Citizen of the Year.
It was not expected and certainly not deserved. There are many others who could have received it – the grass-mowing VIPs; shop owners who have survived three difficult years; the service organizations and churches; and many individuals that are too numerous to name. Every Salado citizen was worthy of the reward.
On to other business.
(1) An anonymous person has pledged a “matching” donation up to $10,000 for cleaning the low water crossing. In other words, for every dollar given, this person will match it. This very generous offer is given out of the love for Salado. No matter the size, every donation will go to clean the creek around the crossing. Checks should be made to Salado Community Foundation and sent to “Keep Salado Beautiful,” PO Box 895, Salado, Texas 76571. Your contribution is tax deductible. Thanks to you, Salado Creek will remain clean and healthy with free-flowing water.
(2) For the next few months, I will be available on Saturday morning to answer questions or discuss Village issues with individuals. The one-hour appointment in the Municipal Building may be made for 9, 10, or 11 a.m. Sorry, time does not allow for walk-ins. To make an appointment, please call Mary Ann, Village Secretary, 947-5060. A great opportunity to discuss Village issues.
(3) Excellent Aldermen/lady retreat Saturday. The open meeting, lasting over 5- hours discussed the following: Departmental reports from Chamber/Tourism Bureau and Police Department; Wastewater facilities master planning; Infrastructure improvement master planning; impact of future/new development – Village, other jurisdictions; environmental impact; wastewater hook-up policy; Deer population; Salamander and creek issues Update on Salado Oaks Drive; Sanctuary related zoning; Maintenance of low water crossing and Staffing levels. Great discussion and exchange of ideas.
All of this is evidence of a great Village going forward.
