Fourteen businesses were honored at the school board meeting held this past Monday, October 16, for their outstanding support of the students and schools in our school district. We are grateful for the generosity of the following businesses and their commitment to help make a real difference for our kids and our community:

Armstrong Center Halloween Carnival on October 21
The Armstrong Community Improvement Association will hold its annual Halloween Carnival 6 p.m. Saturday, October 21 at the Armstrong Community Center located South of Belton on 7800 Armstrong Road, Belton
The carnival offers fun for the entire family to include: Bingo for Prizes, An Old Fashioned Cake Walk, Games for Children, A Haunted House, Raffles, An Auction and Concessions. Barbeque sandwiches, nachos and sausage wraps will be available along with baked goods. The Halloween Carnival has been a tradition for almost 90 years and is the primary fund-raising event for the Community Center. Funds are used to improve/restore the community center which once served as a two room school house.
Finding your roots in Bell County
Bell County clerk Shelley Coston, will discuss Finding your Roots in Bell County at the Salado Historical Society Annual Chili Supper Nov. 6 at the Salado Church of Christ.
More than 1,000 attend Christmas in October
The Ladies Auxiliary welcomed more than 1,000 to Salado during the annual Christmas in October event at The Venue last week.
This annual event acts as a preview to the Christmas season and will feature the wares of local and area merchants on display inside a beautiful setting at The Venue on College Street.

Early voting begins October 23 for proposed amendments
On Nov. 7, voters will have a chance to consider seven constitutional amendments proposed by the 85th Legislature.
The proposed amendments cover a wide range of topics, including property taxes, raffles, home equity loan provisions, and more.
Early voting starts Oct. 23 and ends Nov. 3.

Dr. Brad Buckley invited Saladoans to a meet and greet at Johnny’s Steaks and Bar-be-que on Oct. 16. Dr. Buckley announced his candidacy for House District 54 on Sept. 26.

Salado man has served as 169th District Judge for 17 years
Judge Gordon G. Adams of Salado announced this week his intent to file for re-election to the position of Judge of the 169th District Court.

Salado Education Foundation gives $385,250 in scholarships
The Salado Education Foundation was founded in 1999. Since then this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has donated $385,250 in student scholarships and $118,537 in teacher grants.
The scholarships are for graduating seniors and can be used for any post-secondary education, including four year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade/vocational courses (check out these mytefl reviews). The SEF provides two types of teacher grants – innovative teaching grants and Taylor Willingham mini-grants (named in honor of former SEF board member, Taylor Willingham). All of these grants are used for classroom equipment, technology, and/or supplies to provide quality curriculum and instruction to our students. Law and agriculture scholarships are among them.

Funeral services for Gerald Jackson Bridges, 90, of Belton will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Pastor Steven Vaughn, Chaplain Bruce Mercer, Byron Mauldin and Pastor Dan Cockrell officiating.
Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery with Masonic Services.
Bridges passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at a local nursing facility.
