Lady Eagles 1-2 in district

Salado Lady Eagles lost two district games last week, falling in a highly-contested five-set match to Florence and losing in four to Lexington on Sept. 20. The girls will host Cameron Sept. 27. The girls traveled to Rogers on Sept. 24, but the game was after press time.

After a close first set loss, Salado came back in the third set against Lexington to win 25-19, but it was all Lexington in the fourth set as the visiting Lady Eagles won 25-9 to take the match.

Salado had 28 kills at the net with a 59.6 percentage on 47 attempts.

Taylor Atwood led the team with 10 kills on 14 attempts.  Cheyenne Vaca had 9 kills on 13 attempts and Sydney Wright had 5 kills on 6 attempts. Also earning kills were Jaylee Sebek, 2 kills and Meagan Hill and Mallory Schattle, 1 kill each.

At the service line, Taylor Valeriano, Tori Laughland and Hill all had one serving ace. Hill  and Schattle led the scoring with 6 service points each, followed by Atwood and Laughland, 4 service points each, Valeriano, 3 service points and Hicks and Vaca, 1 service point each,

Atwood blocked 2 shots and Vaca blocked 1. Hill had 27 assists.

Florence Lady Buffs edged Salado in five sets after the Lady Eagles came back from a two-set deficit to win the third and fourth sets on the road Sept. 17 in a district match.

Vaca and Atwood had 11 kills for the Lady Eagles. Hicks followed with 9 kills. Also scoring kills for Salado were Schattle, 4, Hill, 3, Sebek, 2, and Wright, 1.

Hicks led the girls in serving with 4 aces, followed by Vaca, 3 aces, Hill, 2 aces and Atwood and Laughland, 1 ace. Hicks and Laughland had 19 service points each. Vaca and Hill had 17 sercice points each. Wright had 9 and Valeriano had 5.

Sebek blocked 4 shots and Atwood and Schattle had a block each. Hill had 36 assists.

For the Florence Lady Buffs, Rebecca Horton led the attack at the net with 21 kills, followed by Shali Simpson, 13 kills. Also recording kills were Hannah Hurley, 7, Brooklynne Owns, 5, Jenny Roche, 4, Peyton Thomas, 3 and Mackenzie Futrell, 1 kill.

Florence scored 26 aces, with Clarissa Carranco scoring 9 of them. Also scoring aces were Own=ens, 6, Horton, 5, Roche, 3, Simpson, 2 and Futrell, 1.

Harlie Byrne blocked 4 shots and Thomas blocked 1 shot.

 

JV Girls

Salado JV girls beat Lexington Sept. 20 in a home match in two sets, 25-12 and 25-11.

Salado JV girls volleyball lost in straight sets to Florence Sept. 17, falling 15-25 and 14-25.

 

Freshmen Girls

Salado freshmen cruised past the Lexington girls in a home match Sept. 20, winning 25-4 and 25-7.

Sara Kelarek rattled off 16 straight service points in the first set. 

Tristian Hawes scored five service points as the girls easily won.

In the second set, Caroline Birnbaum scored seven service points to finish the set. Jorden Vick also scored seven service points.

The Freshmen girls also swept the Florence girls on the road Sept. 20, winning 25-14 and 25-15.

Kelarek scored the first eight service points and finished the first set with seven more service points.

Birnbaum scored seven service points and Kelarek scored three service points to lead the ninth grade Lady Eagles.

Torey Dekay served two aces for the final points in the second set for Salado.

Junior High Volleyball

Seventh grade B beat Jarrell 25-12, 25-8 on Sept. 23. Players of the game are Rebecca Dockray and Angelia Del Rio.

Eighth B grade lost to Jarrell 16-25, 13-25. Player of the game was Haley Van de Plas.

Seventh grade A beat Jarrell 25-21, 26-24. Players of the game are Haley Taber and Taryn Westbrook.

Eighth grade A lost to Jarrell 9-25, 11-25. Players of the game were Danielle McDaniel and Katie Robinson.
