Salado – Celebration of Life services for Sue Whistler, 81, of Salado, Texas will be at 4pm, July 28, 2013 at the three-tier deck by the creek at the Venue off College Street.  Rev. Lara Whitley will be officiating.

Sue passed on July 23 at her home. She was born on April 11, 1932 in Hillsboro, Illinois to Michael and Mary Cimbalista.

She married Bob Whistler on February 11, 1951. They moved from Pharr, Texas to Salado in 1980, purchasing 12 Oaks that same year. 

Being very active in the community, she was a volunteer in the Salado Elementary Reading Program, Salado Schools Mentor Program and was one of the original creek testers for our Salado Creek. She served as Treasurer of the Salado Historical Society for many years, opening her home for the Historical Society’s Christmas Home Tour. She served as a Salado Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for many years.

She and her family created Inn on the Creek, a Bed and Breakfast Inn and Restaurant, in Salado in 1987. It was sold in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzi Epps and one grandson, Austin. She also was a loving mother to Linda Beakey Luna of Quito, Ecuador and Anni Schweigreiter Krassnig of Klagenfurt, Austria.

Memorials may be made to Salado Independent School District, Sue Whistler Memorial Fund, for books for the school libraries, P O Box 98, Salado, Texas  76571.

Services are in the care of Broecker Funeral Home, Salado.
