The only child of Jack and Ida Ellis. Donald was born on January 17, 1931 in Warren, Ohio.
They moved to Seaside, Oregon where he graduated high school and went on to get his degree as a M.D. from Oregon State University in 1956. He joined the Army and traveled to Washington, Texas, Kansas, Georgia and Germany. He was the Commander of the 22nd Surgical Hospital in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He loved being a doctor. He served 20 years in the military, 12 years in private practice and 32 years with the VA in Temple.

The Ellises lived in Salado for more than 30 years in a house that Darwin Britt built on Salado Creek.
Don loved to drive and collect cars and took hundreds of road trips all around the United States. He drove from Texas to the Indianapolis 500 several years in a row. He was a member of the Continental Lincoln Club for many years. He built his cars garage off IH-35 to store his Lincolns and other collector cars. That garage became a landmark in Salado with its flying Pegasus neon sign.
He frequently drove the Grand Marshal of the Salado Stroll parade in his antique car and entered in many auto shows.
At one point he bought a 1940’s model barnstorming bi-plane and learned to fly it.
Don is preceded in death by his son Scott, father, Jack, and his mother, Ida.
He is survived by his wife Micki, his daughters, Pam and Karen, sons Keith and Clifford and step-daughters Gaylyn, Terrie and Cindy and many grandchildren.
