Meet the Salado I.S.D. School Board Candidates

Four candidates have filed for two three-year terms on the Salado I.S.D. Board of Trustees: Brad Bolick, Melanie Kirchmeier, Michael Matthews and Chris Seaton. As of presstime, Matthews announced that he is withdrawing from the race. While his name will appear on the ballot, he asks voters to only consider the other three candidates.

This week, Salado Village Voice gave each of the candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to the voters. Those introductions appear below:

Salado I-35 Mainlane Closures on May 4, 5 and 6

All I-35 northbound mainlanes will be closed to traffic through part of Salado on Monday, May 4 and Wednesday May 6^, from 7 PM – 7 AM, as crews work in the median.

Eagles take district crown with 3-1 win over Taylor Ducks

Salado seniors are seen above with their parents prior to the Eagles beating the Taylor Ducks in the final home game of the year to win the District 25-4A crown.

With a 3-1 win at home over the Taylor Ducks April 28, Salado won District 25-4A outright finishing the regular season 17-5 and district 8-2. They will face the fourth place team in District 26-4A in the first round of the playoffs.

DPS releases report on fatal accident, no charges yet

The above diagram is from the eight page report filed recently by the Department of Public Safety.

Almost a month after the March 26 fatal accident on I-35, charges have been filed by an indianapolis truck accident attorney and an official Department of Public Safety crash report left the narrative description blank as being under review by the District Crash Team.

As of presstime on April 21, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident

Taste of Salado is finale of Immerse, Emerge

The Public Arts League of Salado (PALS) will hold the annual fundraiser Taste of Salado on April 25 at the Venue in Salado.

The event will be preceded by three days of public art in action as well as ticketed events, collectively known as “Immerse & Emerge.”

Salado sits atop district, faces Taylor in finale

Salado Eagles had 10 hits and as many runs in their dominant win over the Burnet Bulldogs April 21 to remain tied with Taylor Ducks for first place in District 25-4A with two games remaining.

The Eagles will host Llano April 24 and likely finish the season in a fight with Taylor for the outright district championship. Both teams have two district losses, including one against each other. Taylor faces bottom-dwelling Lampasas at home April 24.

State-ranked opponents hand Lady Eagles three straight losses

While the Salado Lady Eagles lost two close games to state-ranked opponents last week, falling 2-0 to the #6 Liberty Hill Lady Panthers and 2-1 to the #22 Lampasas Lady Badgers, their loss to the #5 Burnet Lady Bulldogs was not so close on April 21 as Salado went down 9-1 on the road.

The girls remain in fourth place to qualify for the playoffs going into the final week of play.
