For the third straight year, the Salado High School band won the Sweepstakes Trophy, awarded at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Competition, held at Cameron Yoe High School on March 3.
This is the seventh sweepstakes for the SHS Band since 2007.
In order to earn the Sweepstakes Trophy, a band must receive a First Division in Marching, Concert and Sight Reading contests.
At the Sight Reading contest, the SHS band performed Them Basses Narch, Prospect and Steel.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this group of students as we met our goal of not only earning the Sweepstakes trophy but more important they made amazing music,” said Charla Kelley. “I am truly honored to be their director.”
The band will travel to Disneyland in California over Spring Break to share their music with others.
“I am looking forward to a great trip and end of the year with these students,” Kelley said.
