Salado Eagles varsity soccer team starts district play this week after a decisive wins over China Spring.
“The boys continue to impress with their teamwork,” Coach Michael Goos said. “This was a good win since they played this team to a close 0-1 loss in January.”
Midfielder Daniel Magadan led the scoring with two goals while forward Costas Loullis scored a goal and had an assist. Also scoring goals for the Eagles were these: outside midfielder Ryan Cook and Christian Martinez and defender Kaden Smein. Contributing assists were forward Scout Puckett and outside midfielder Armando Castillo.
Prior to their first district game against Lampasas on Feb. 17 (after presstime), the Eagles were 8-6 on the year.

Salado Eagles shut out the Robinson Rockets 5-0 on their own turf Feb. 13 leading into this week’s district opener against Jarrell Feb. 20
Five Eagles scored goals: attacking midfielder Daniel Magadan had a goal and two assists while forward Scout Pucket had a goal and an assist. Also scoring goals were defensive midfielder Alex Carmona, forward Brandon Rodriguez and defensive midfielder John Dawson.
“I am very happy with our team’s performance and sportsmanship in the game against Robinson,” Magadan said.
Junior Varsity
The Salado JV beat Lampasas in a home game 1-0 on Feb. 10.
The lone goal was scored by Jose Olvera on a header from a corner kick sent in by Manuel Tonchez.
The boys played again on Feb. 12 against Gatesville and avenged a loss a week earlier beating the Hornets 3-0. Malachi Ward drew first blood in the first half on a down field pass from Edgar Castillo. In the second half, Malachi Ward flicked a ball back to Jacob Foster, who on a volley, sent the ball to the near post. The last goal, a header, came from Malachi Ward who received a deep corner kick from Eduardo Jimenez.
