The Burnet Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Eagles to just one run and two hits in their April 2 district game in Salado. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs ratcheted nine hits and scored three runs for the win.
Burnet scored a run in the top of the first. Natalie Frank singled to right with one out in the inning and went to second on an error by the Salado shortstop that let Shelby Wilson get to first. Frank went to third on a passed ball and a walk issued to Makenzie Carpenter loaded the bases. Vanessa Escamilla bunted into a fielders choice that scored Frank and put the runner out trying to reach third for the second out. Rose Bailey hit a grounder to third baseman Cece Cantu who threw her out across the field at first base, leaving two runners stranded.
After Carpenter struck out Salado’s top of the order in the bottom of the first, the Lady Eagles were able to tie the score in the second. Bailey Tindell hustled out a single and Jenna Calder bunted for a single. An errant throw allowed Tindell to get to home and Calder to second. Carpenter then went on to record 11 more strikeouts for 14 in the game.
Abbie James was the only Lady Eagle to reach base in the latter five innings, getting to first on an error by third baseman Escamilla.
Frank singled again to lead off the third, stretching the hit to second base on an error by right fielder Madeline Murray. Shelby Wilson singled to left sending Frank to third. Carpenter singled to center, scoring Frank. With bases loaded, Cantu caught an infield shot by Escamilla and put the runner out trying to get back to third for a single-handed double play. Calder caught a pop up to end the inning with the bases full.
In the top of the fifth, Rose Bailey rocked a triple to deep center field, turning it into the third run of the game on an error by Cantu.
