Zerne Masonic Lodge invites area Masons, public to attend ceremonies

Zerne Masonic Lodge No. 615 A.F. & A.M. in Holland, Texas, is honored to receive the Most Worshipful Grand Master of Texas Tommy F. Chapman for the purpose of presiding over the leveling of two cornerstones for the Holland Independent School District.

The leveling ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Holland ISD Campus, 501 Crockett Street in Holland. The Grand Lodge of Texas will level the cornerstone at two buildings on the campus: the Cindy Gunn Student Center and the Holland Elementary Gymnasium.

The early vote turnout in Bell County has eclipsed every other mid-term election in Bell County history, including the midterms of 2010, which was the Tea Party revolution.

More than 1,000 vote in first two days at Salado Civic Center

Early voting began on Oct. 22 in the November General Election that will include two federal races for Senator and U.S. Representative District 31, and several state and county races.

Turnout has been heavy in Bell County as 11,888 cast ballots in person early voting in the first two days Oct. 22-23. Of that, 1,111 cast ballots at the Salado early voting location.

Commissioners honor Oliver for his 94th birthday

Jack — as he is known to everyone in Bell County — turns 94 on Sept. 21.

With that in mind, Bell County Commissioners Court took the opportunity earlier this week to proclaim his birthday Sept. 21 2018 as Colonel John W. Oliver, Jr. Day in Bell County.

Sales tax allocation drops 11% to Village

For the first time this year, the sales tax payment to Salado dropped compared to last year. Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced that he will send sales tax allocations checks to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts.

Aldermen will hear a presentation from Dirk Aaron with the Clearwater Underground Water Conservation District on Sept. 6 concerning a proposed 250,000 gallon per day wastewater treatment plant to be built south of Salado.

The Village may join State Representative Scott Cosper in requesting a public hearing on the proposed treatment plant. It may also add its comments to those that have already been submitted regarding the discharge location for the plant.

Bell County Commissioner Tim Brown reported that since Jan. 26 his campaign has raised an additional $8,550 in political contribution and spent $31,714.42 in political expenditures, according to campaign finance report dated May 12.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s spring commencement ceremony on May 5 was unlike any that had come before it. Along with celebrating the school’s 162nd graduating class, the university paid special tribute to the first male graduates of Mary Hardin-Baylor, some five decades ago when the school was officially still a college for women.

Sales tax rebate to Salado increases

Comptroller Glenn Hegar Distributes $862 Million in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue to Local Governments

(AUSTIN) —The Village of Salado will receive a payment of $46,475.43, which is 16.49 percent more than last May’s payment of $39,894.46. For the year, the Village is 11.31 percent ahead of payments through May 2017. The Village has received $207,035.66 so far in 2018 and $185,989.82 through May 2017.
