We’ve been calling it the end of an era for a long time now.
It’s supposed to be the end of newspapers, according to naysayers who have been predicting their ultimate demise for years. But the facts prove the newspaper industry is growing and transforming rather than dying.

After 46 years, the Salado Art Fair has been canceled, less than two months before the date of the show in late October.
The same week, the Public Arts League of Salado (PALS) canceled its fund raiser, A Taste of Salado, planned to take place at the Sculpture Garden the same time that the Cattlemen’s Ball is held at Tenroc Ranch.
Monthly, the state Comptroller releases news that sales tax revenues are declining for the Village of Salado, while other communities in Bell County and Central Texas see increases in their sales tax revenues.
Within a few weeks of each other, Adelea’s on Main St., a popular restaurant in Salado, and Horsefeathers, a very popular destination store in Salado, are shuttered with little or no warning.
Earlier this year, it appeared as if Mill Creek Golf Club might close its doors.
While there are individual, sometimes personal, explanations for most of these occurrences, their coincidence points to unspoken — unspeakable — questions.
What is happening to Salado? Are the best days of Salado behind, or before us? Why is this happening? Has Salado done something wrong? How can we fix it?
On Saturday, October 26th, Sunday the 27th Salado’s Tablerock Walking Trail will be magically transformed into a Fright Trail. From 6:30PM ‘till the approach of the witching hour 10:00PM Goblins will extract a $3.00 fee from children and a $5.00 fee from big children for a walk on the spectral side of Tablerock.
Christmas in October is just around the corner and Tommye Prater says this year has all the makings of a hit. The event will be held in the Conference Center of the historic Stagecoach Inn Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Killeen, TX – Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children welcomed 20 Salado High School students on Wednesday, September 25 for a high-adventure leadership retreat. As part of the Youth Leadership Program at Salado High School, students challenged themselves on the 40-foot rock wall, 175-foot zipline, low-ropes obstacle course and other activities.

WACO — On Tuesday, September 24, from 7:00 pm to approximately 1:00 am Wednesday morning, all northbound mainlanes near FM 2484 in Salado will be closed. Northbound traffic will detour off the freeway at Exit #286 (FM 2484) to the frontage road and reenter the mainlanes just south of Amity Road. In addition, the northbound-side frontage road will be closed to through traffic and open to local traffic only, between Salado Plaza Drive and FM 2484, during the same hours as the mainlane closure.

AUSTIN, Texas – September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and according to mental health experts, taking the steps to possibly save someone’s life does not require any special skills or training. Melissa Heinen, who coordinates suicide prevention services, said people who are contemplating ending their own lives often speak out – and when they do, friends, family and neighbors need to listen and take action.
