Thomas Arnold Elementary School second graders got a personal tour of the Salado Sculpture Garden on May 13 by board members of Public Arts League of Salado (PALS) and Keep Salado Beautiful (KSB), where they got to get their hands on the art on display at the garden just off of Salado Plaza Dr.

Thomas Arnold Elementary Principal Lisa Nix accepts a donation of $186 from second grader Sydney Klechka. Klechka earned money by selling artwork she created in order to help students who may not have school supplies to start the year in 2016-2017.
Many, if not most, Texas residents are astonished at the diversity of wildlife that inhabits this great state of ours. The vast majority of the hundreds of varieties of fauna that reside here are not easily recognizable to most Texans. However, there is a “big-eared” fellow is so familiar to most everyone that even a professional hockey team in west Texas has donned the name based on it, and that animal is the well-known Black-tailed Jackrabbit.
The Salado High School Theatre Department will present scenes from The Christmas Truce by Phil Porter on May 5, 12, and 19 at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Salado’s Class of 2024 is organizing its second annual Garage Sale and Lemonade Stand fundraiser for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. May 7 at the Salado Intermediate Cafetorium.

Salado High UIL Academic Squad won the Region IV Meet last week and will send 15 competitors to the State Contest in late May.
Salado high school junior Allen Sirois earned an Exemplary rating and State medallion at the Texas Art Education Association Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) held April 22 – 23 at James Madison High School in San Antonio.
Out of more than 31,000 entries submitted in the 29 regional VASE events, 2,048 student works qualified for the State Vase Event. The exhibition featured the best artwork from high school students across Texas.
Jurors evaluated each artwork and scored Sirois sculpture entitled RecylaGoat with 18 out of 20 possible points earning him an Exemplary rating and State medallion.
Sirois art teacher is Kyra Mann. The sculpture will be included in the Salado High School Art Show held from 5 – 6 p.m. on May 31 at the SHS Cafeteria.
Salado Masonic Lodge #296 will offer five $1,000 scholarships to graduating Salado High seniors this spring.
Applications are available through the Salado High School Counselor’s office. Completed applications must be turned back in to the Counselor’s office by the end of school on May 20. This scholarships will be announced at the Senior Awards Night on May 31.

Five Salado FFA teams have advanced to State competition after competing at district and area contests recently.
Salado FC U11 Boys soccer team qualified for the South Texas Cup State Finals in San Antonio April 30- May 1 after competing in the Western District Round in San Marcos April 16-17. The boys were set to play Leander to decide first and second place in the finals of the Western District but inclement weather postponed the match. The two teams will face each at the Finals in San Antonio to determine placement.
On the first day of the Western District tournament, Salado won its first game against Liberty Hill 8-0. The boys tied Bastrop in the second game by a score of 2-2 and tied Leander 3-3 to qualify for the semi-final game.
The boys won a shootout in a rematch against Bastrop to qualify for the finals. John Colvin, Cody Coker, and Morgan Adams each scored during the shootout that decided game 4. Every player either scored or gave an assist during the tourney.
