Services for William R. (Bill) Schleede, 94, were held July 3, 2019 at Broecker Funeral Home in Salado with Reverend David Mosser officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Salado Cemetery.
Family visitation was the day before.

Claribel Northen Peteete, 88, of Belton died January 28 at a Belton care center. Services were held Feb 1 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Dunks, Rev. Billy Johnson and Rev. Sewell officiating. Burial followed at Salado Cemetery.
Claribel was born May 14, 1913, in Deer Lodge, Montana, to Joseph Henry and Susan Ann Gault Queeberry. She married Embry Peteete, in 1946, who preceded her in death in 1984. She worked as a checker at the Fort Hood Commissary.
She is survived by her son Mark Peteete of New Braunfels; stepdaughter Better Corbett of Ft. Worth; and grandchildren, Matt Petite and Laura Petite.

Battershell passes away at age 75 in Temple
Dave Battershell, age 75, of Georgetown, formerly of Houston, died January 20 in Temple. He was born August 16, 1926 in Fairy, Texas, to Samuel and Mary Lucille Battershell.
After graduating from Hico High School, he served in World War II, in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1946. Dave graduated with honors from the University of Texas, with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1949. Soon after graduation, he began working for the Texas Company in Port Author. On June 16, 1951, he married Mary Ann Reeves, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was a member of Proctor Street Baptist Church.
In 1953, he began a long career with Hudson Engineering in Houston, Texas, last serving as President of the company before retirement in the 1980’s. Dave was a charter member of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston. He served on the board of directors of Peerless Manufacturing in Dallas for 21 years.
In 1996, Dave and Mary Ann moved to Georgetown. While in Georgetown, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, where he served as deacon.
He leaves his wife of over 50 years, Mary Ann Batter hell of Georgetown; on, Ben Lewi Battershell and wife, Pima of Austin; son, Brian Battershell and wife Robin of Belton, Texas; grandchildren, David, Sam, and Kara Battershell of Austin; and Daniel, Christopher, and Lauren Battershell, of Belton. He also leaves brothers, Ray Battershell of Hico, Texas, and James
Battershell of Waco; and sister, Mary Ard of Waco.
Preceding him in death, were his parents, Samuel and Mary Lucille Battershell, and brother Samuel Battershell.

Marjorie P. Kirkman services on January 23
Services for Marjorie P. Kirkman 75, of Salado will be held 10 a.m. January 23, at Heartfield Funeral Home m Belton.
Burial will be in North Belton Cemetery. She died January 19, 2002 in a Ft. Worth hospital
Mrs. Kirkman was born in Walla Walla, Washington, to Louis and Winnie Pilfer. She grew up in Walla Walla and graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla.
In 1981, she moved to Salado from Minneapolis, Minn., with her husband.
She was a member and director of the Salado Women’s Chorale and was past president of the Salado Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Lions Club and was on the board of directors of Tablerock Festival for several years. She accompanied the Belton High School choir in its many competitions and she was also a model for designer Grace Jones.
Mrs. Kirkman was a United Methodist and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones in 1990.
Survivors are two sons, William L. Kirkman of Ft. Worth and Robert G. Kirkman of Southlake; six grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
Zbranek dies at home Jan. 4
Johnnie Andrew Zbranek, 79, of Bartlett, died at his home on Jan. 4, 2002.
Mr. Zabranek was born in Granger, Texas on March 28, 1922, the son of Joseph J. and Louise F (Janak) Zabranek. He was a member of the SS. Cyril and Methodist Catholic Church in Granger.
A veteran of WWII, he served with the U.S. Army from Dec. 11, 1942 to Jan 9, 1946, a a PFC with Battery D. 478th Anti-aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapon Battalion as a cannoneer and target tracker in the South Pacific. He is the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Victory medal, Philippine Liberation medal and a good conduct medal.
On Nov. 18, 1952, he was married to Ella Mae Kasper. A lifetime resident of the area, he had been engaged in farming and ranching.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe; four sisters, Bessie Janak, Annie Prinkle, Mary Karkoska and Louise Blackmon.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Zbranek of Bartlett; daughter Diana Wolf of Bartlett; sons Randy Zbranek and wife Rita of Salado, Joseph Zbranek and wife Cary of Bartlett; sisters, Minnie Masoch of Granger, Georgia Kasparek of Dallas; save grandchildren April and Derek Wolf, Ashley Zbranek, Shelby Zbranek, Shane and Marisa Scully, and Amber Elliott and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited Jan. 6. Graveside services were held Jan. 7 at Calvary Cemetery in Granger with Rev. John Frizelle officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice 819 S. Fifth Street, Temple, TX. 76504.

Canales passes away at age 31
Services for Clint Cole Canales, 31, were held January 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Lampasas with the Rev. Mark Barnard and J.W. Hutcherson officiating. Mr. Canales passed away Jan. 10, 2002.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Clint was born September 20, 1970, in Temple, to Leon Canales and Alba Grace Pamplin Canales. He grew up in Lampasas and graduated in 1989 from Lampasas High School. He attended Hill College in Hillsboro and Sue Ross in Alpine. Clint was active in rodeos and especially excelled in team roping where he won many buckles and a horse trailer. He had worked as a sales manager for a manufactured housing company.
Clint married the former Trica Ann Hogan July 22, 1995. They became parents of a daughter Chayce Capri on April 24, 2000.
He was preceded in death by his mother June 9, 1998 and his father April 16, 1999 and a brother.
He is survived by his wife Trica and daughter Chayce of Lampasas, two brothers Clay Canales of Lampasas and Cody Canales of Georgetown. Other survivors include Nan Ray, Ruby Cameron and Robert Ray of Salado.
Hall, 62, passes away December 26 in Georgetown
Thomas A. Hall of Salado, formerly of Portland, Maine died Friday, December 26 in Georgetown following illness.
Tom was born March I, 1941 in Sanford, Maine to Preston and Dorothy Hall. He is survived by his wife Jean Hall of Salado and his brother Albert Hall of Limington Maine.
Tom Hall proudly served in the Naval Submarine Service from 1958 through 1964.
Most recently Tom and his wife Jean, owned and operated The Amish Store in Scarsbourough, Maine and Salado.

Price passes away at age 75
Services for W. Leon Price, 75, of Salado were Nov. 14, 2003 at Fairview Cemetery Chapelin Denison with the Rev. James Kelly officiating.
He died Nov. 7 in his home.
He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Price of Sherman, two grand-daughters and one great-granddaughter.

Light passes away Nov. 22 in Temple Hospital
Philip N. Light, 69, of Salado, died Nov. 22, 2003 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Minister Joe Keyes officiating. Burial followed in Salado Cemetery.
Light was born to John Hudson and lrba Ester Wiseman Light in Lamesa on Sept. 7. 1914 He married Nancy Sanders in Belton on July 6 195 . He had been a resident of Salado for the past 17 years moving here from Grand Prairie.
He and his wife own Main Street Place in Salado He was formerly employed as a banker for 27 year in Killeen and Grand Prairie. He was also an independent insurance broker in Dallas and Salado. He was active in civic organizations, holding membership m the Lion Club, Kiwanis Club and Toastmasters. Light was an active member of Salado Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Light of Salado; two sons, Steve Light of Dallas and Scott Light of Grand Prairie; one daughter, Leslie Billings of Dallas; two brothers, Glen Light of Belton and Curtis Light of Salado, one sister, Elizabeth Carterght of Signal Mountain, TN; and six grandchildren. He was precede in death by one brother, John Light and one sister, Patricia Self.
Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Hall Fund of the Salado Church of Christ.
