John H. Saringer passes away

John H. Saringer, born June 15, 1916 in Belton, passed away May IO in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Erolla B. Saringer.

John owned and oper­ated his own business for many years as a mechani­cal contractor. After retiring from that, he worked as a rancher in Kaufman. raising registered polled herefords. He was a member of both the state and national polled hereford associations. John was a long-time resident of the Casa Linda area of Dal­las. He served in many or­ganizations during those years such as the Kawanis, the Masons for over 50 years, Buckner State Bank and Lakeside Baptist Church.

For many years, he was an amateur radio opera­tor and many “hams” across the world loved talking to “Big John” at KSZVP, his amateur station. He sup­ported higher education through the years, and was a loyal contributor to the University of Mary Hardin­Baylor, where his wife and two daughters graduated.

He is survived by his three children, Frances Jones and husband, Bob: Judy Landrum and hus­band, Jim, and son John R. Saringer and wife Sandi. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kellye Robertson and husband, Keith; Richard Jones and wife Susan; Tony Landrum and wife Suzy; Stacey Moore and husband Jeff; Missy Rhys and husband Tim. He is survived by his sister, Betty and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held May 12 at the Restland Memorial Chapel.

Christopher Mulholland passes away

Christopher Deane Mulholland, 31, of Temple died at a Temple Hospital May 11, 2000. Graveside services were held May 15 at the Salado Cemetery with Minister Dempsey Stripling officiating.

Christopher Deane was born to Pete Mulholland and Judy Fitzpatrick Mulholland July 2, 1968 in Harlingen, TX. He grew up in Brownsville, TX where he graduated high school. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Anndra Dunnahoo of Salado. Mr. Mulholland was an assistant manager of Loves Truck Stop in Temple.

Survivors are wife Anndra Mulholland of Temple. His father Pete Mulholland ofHouston. His mother Judy Tijerina of Belton; one son Christopher Andrew of Temple, a brother Mike Mulholland of Houston and sisters Patricia Mulholland of Belton and Kathy Sanders of Dime Box, TX.

Harper-Talasek of Salado was in charge of the arrangements.

Ricky Lyn Tantillo passes away

Rick. Lyn Tantillo, born June 25, 1958 died March 21.

Rick was a native of Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High
School. He was primarily a craftsman and painter, but was known for his creative work in remodeling old houses. Rick loved people and was always ready to lend a helping hand to others.

Rick is survived by his mother, Martha Gibbs Mosley of Taylor; sister, Tanye Tantillo of Beorne; brothers, Randy Tantillo of Conroe and Ryan Tantillo of Taylor. In addition Rick is survived by his grand­mother, Josephine Misuraca Tantillo of Port Necho and Edith Walker Gibbs of Salado, as well as a number of nieces, neph­ews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe V. Tantillo; grandfathers Natale Tantillo and L.G. Gibbs and uncle, Larry Gibbs.

Graveside services were conducted by Father Adam Martiney, March 24 at Ce­dar Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sid Lambert of Port Arthur, Dalton Gibbs of Taylor, Jim Kelly of Houston, Danny Vargas of Taylor, Wally Hernandez of Taylor, and Julian Vera of Austin.

Barry Marshall passes away in Gatesville

Barry Marshall. 47. of Gatesville. died April 1 in a Gatesville hospital.

Funeral services were held April 4 at the Gateway Baptist Church in Gatesville with the Rev. Royse Cockrell officiating. Inter­ment followed at the Davidson Cemetery.

He was born on July 17, 1952 in Galesville to M.K. and Cleo Marshall. He graduated from Gatesville High school in 1970 and later attended McLennan Community College in Waco. He entered into the electrical business in 1971, working for Gary Shoemaker and Milton Harrell.

In 1982, he opened Marshall Electric, which he and his brother were cur­rently operating, working mostly in the Gatesville – Copperas Cove and Killeen area. He married Mary Wendeborn Wallace on Sept. 4, 1981. He served on the Electrical Board for the City of Copperas Cove. He was an active and devoted member of Gateway Bap­tist Church and was well known for his generosity and love for helping people. He was noted as a walking encyclopedia, with his knowledge of trivia. He en­joyed music and was an avid fisherman. He and his nephew Brian Wendeborn participated in fishing in the Angler’s Choice Team Tournaments.

He is survived by his wife. Mary Marshall of Gatesville: son. Cody (Slim) Wallace of Gatesville; par­ents, M.K. (Jiggs) and Cleo Marshall of Gatesville; sis­ter, Mrs. Fred (Connie) Cummings of Lampasas; brother, Kelly Marshall of Gatesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Gateway Baptist Church Pallbearers were Juan Sanchez, Gene Riley, Ronnie Cole, Ben Brumbalow, Ron Grisby, Sam Morton, Tommy Altum and Mary Marshall.

Honorary pallbearers were Woody Money, Richard Sellers, Paul Stone and Wendell Bell.

Arch McNamara dies at age 80

Arch McNamara, 80, of Temple died March 30 at a Temple nursing Home.
Services were held April 3 in Salado Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Bawcom officiat­ing.

He was born Aug. 29, 1919 in Palenas Orientes, Cuba on a sugar plantation to Ambrose and Imogene Gamel McNamara. He mar­ried Dorothy Delaney in Laredo on Jan. 27, 1962. He was the great-grandson of Col. E.S.C. Robertson, founder of Salado. He served in the 5th Air Force in World War II in the south Pacific. He was an independent insurance bro­ker for many years. He at­tended the University of New Mexico, University of Miami and was a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown. He was a lifetime member of The Sons of Confederate Veter­ans and a lifetime member of Disabled American Vet­erans. He was a past president of the Board of Trust­ees of the Central Texas Area Museum.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy McNamara of Temple and step-sister, Daisy Dickson of Norfolk, VA.

Memorial service held for Jerry Brannon

Memorial services for Jerry Brannon, 60, of Salado were held March 7 at the Dossman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy Davis officiating.

Mr. Brannon passed away March 5. He was born in Paris, TX to Odell John Boston Brannon and Bonnie Marie (Benson) Brannon. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 5 years. He married Sandra Bieri in 1961 in Ft. Summer, NM.

Brannon worked for IBM for 26 years. He worked in the position of Technical writer and Customer Service Engineer position.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Brannon of Salado, two daughters and sons-in-law Melody and Ron Evans of Topeka, KS and, Kristi and Gregg Lee of Round Rock. One sister and brother-in-law Betty and Dwayne Halbrooks of Loop. Two grandchildren Ryland and Bailey Evans.

Lloyd Andrew Harper passes away at age 82

Lloyd Andrew Harper of Salado, formally of McGregor a’lld Pelham, New York, died Feb. 25 at his Salado home at the age of 82. Reverend Marilyn Legge will officiate at the services to be held 2:30 p.m. March 3 at the First United Methodist Church in Salado.

Mr. Harper was born July 27, 1917, in McGregor, the son of the late Lloyd and Harriet (Mills) Harper. He was a 1935 graduate of McGregor High School and earned a B.B.A. from the University of Texas in Austin in 1938. On Dec. 15, 1940, he mar­ried Martha Williams in McGregor. Mr. Harper be­gan his career with Texaco, Inc. in Houston shortly af­ter graduation.

He spent 18 years in Caracas, Venezuela and 22 years in New York in the comptroller and treasurer of American Overseas Petroleum Company (AMOSEAS), a subsidiary of Texaco and Standard Oil of California (SOCAL). Since his retirement, he has resided in Salado. He served as treasurer of the Lion’s Club for many years.

Survivors include his wife Martha; their children Barbara and Robert and two grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Sims of McGregor, Margaret Berkley of Danbury, Connecticut.

Services will be held 2:30 p.m. March 3 at the First United Methodist Church in Salado.

Ralph M. Whitaker passes away

Ralph M. Whitaker, 86, of Salado, died Feb. 16 at his residence.

Services were held Feb. 19 at St. Stephen’s Catho­lic Church in Salado.

The body has been do­nated to science.

He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a manufacturing repre­sentative for machinery and tools. He was lifetime member of the Cleveland Engi­neering Society and a life­time appraiser for the Fed­eral Bankruptcy Court. In 1971, he moved to Florida where he was founder and president of the Daytona Beach Chapter No. 154 National Association of Watch and Clock Collec­tors. He moved to Salado in 1998. Survivors are his wife, Ilene Young Whitaker of Salado; a sister Mary W. Hill of Salado; a daughter, Rita Burke of Euclid, Ohio; two sons, Donald Whitaker of Concord, Ohio, and Frank Whitaker of Salado, and 10 grandchildren.

Morris Arthur Campbell dies at 73, services held Feb. 21

A memorial service for Morris Arthur Campbell, 73 of Belton was held Feb. 21 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with the Rev. Joe Bentley officiat­ing.

Campbell died Feb. 18 in a Temple Hospital.

Morris Campbell was born Aug. 31, 1926 in Forney, the son of Charles Arthur and Marie Louise (Bunch) Campbell. Campbell married Peggy Fulford in 1970. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Campbell of Belton, seven sons, Patrick Campbell of Sonora, Michael Campbell of Salado, Jim Campbell ofFt. Worth, Brian Campbell of Salado, Marty Bingham of Gatesville, Dale Bingham of Montana and Ronald Houston of Salado; two brothers, Charles Campbell of Houston and Steve Campbell of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Dorothy Scoggins of Abilene, 15 grandchildren and 2 great­-grandchildren.

Katharine Smith Wilkes dies Jan. 31 buried in Salado

Katherine Smith Wilkes died Jan. 31, 2000. She was born in Wichita Falls on Nov. 7, 1917, to Marvin and Emma John (Don) Ikard Smith. In Wichita Falls, she attended public schools, graduating from high school in 1933. Later she attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, and the University of Texas. She graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1938. Katherine was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta soror­ity for over 50 years.

Katherine had a fascinat­ing and distinctive life. For the 1937 Galveston Mardi Gras, Governor Allred named Katherine the Duch­ess of Texas. During World War II, she worked on the Al-Can Highway in Alberta Canada for the Department ofDefense. From 1947-48. she taught as an exchange teacher in Birmingham, England. During her En­gland experience, she was presented to the Queen of England at Hatfield House. During her European trav­els, she had an audience with Pope Pius XII.

In March 1951, she married Thomas Benjamin Wilkes, Jr., who was the love of her life. They had two children: Nancy Elisa and Carleton Sinclair. Tom and Katherine were avid antique collectors and lived in Temple and Salado, for almost four decades. They became very well known and highly respected as an­tique collectors, and founded the first antique business in Salado in 1969. Together they made almost 30 buying trips abroad for their antique shop, Thomas Wilkes, Ltd.

She was an officer and member of Alpha Kappa Gamma, The Antique Glass Club, the Betty Martin D.A.R. Chapter, the Colo­nial Dames, The Spade and Shovel Garden Club, the Magna Carta Dames, and numerous other clubs and societies. She was founding President of the Salado His­torical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tho­mas B. Wilkes, Jr. in 1989; a granddaughter. Lindsay Elisa Brown in 1980 and a grandson, Steven Brandon Brown in 1998.

Katherine is survived by her children: Elisa Ikard­-Dunkley and her husband Steven R. Dunkley of Folksworth, England; and her son Carleton Sinclair Wilkes of Austin. She is survived by her brother Ikard Smith of Wichita Falls, and her sister, Marvin Gene Johnson of Dallas. Three grandchildren sur­vive her: Thomas (Fore) Vernon Brown, IV, and his wife Crystal Borland Brown of Midland; Elliot Sinclair Wilkes of Austin; and Katherine Elizabeth Ikard of Baton Rouge, LA.
Two great-grandsons sur­vive her: Theron Thomas Brown and Aiden Lee Brown of Midland.

Pallbearers were: Gary M. Jones, Warren Maupin, Jr. and Paul Boyd, Jr., all of Temple; Robert Pender of Round Rock; Wallace Rashall and Mike Borland of Midland; and Lawrence Marble of Katy. Honorary pallbearers were: Howell Hundley of Temple, Robert Lamb of Dallas, Clayton Jones of Houston, Robert Denman of Salado, and Por­ter Brandon of Long View.

Funeral services were held Feb. 5 Christ Episcopal Church in Temple with the Rev. David AIwine officiating. Graveside ser­vices were held at Salado Cemetery.
