Funeral services for Josephine “Jody” Evans, 60, of Salado were held July 30 at Heartfield Chapel with Pastors Billy Johnson and Joe Bentley officiating. Burial was in Salado Cemetery. She died July 26 in a Temple hospital.

Mrs. Evans was born in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland, Jan. 21, 1939 to John and Mary Louise Carter. She was married to Jim Evans on Dec 17, 1962 in Stephenville, Newfoundland. She had lived in the area since 1971 after moving from Arlington. She was a homemaker and of Baptist faith.

Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, Jim Evans of Salado; son, Gaylon Evans of Belton; daughter Kim Davidson of Salado; two sisters, Odell Barclay of San Antonio and Edna Solie of Clearwater, FL, and four grandchildren.

Muriel Van Dormolen passes away July 25

Muriel Van Dormolen of Salado passed away July 25.

She was born in 1921 in Paterson, NJ.

She is survived by daughters Deborah “Borah” Van Dormolen of Salado, and Ann Van Dormolen of Los Angeles and preceded in death by her husband, Ted Van Dormolen in 1988.

She studied fashion design at McDowell School of Design, New York City, NY, graduating in 1942. After moving to Illinois with her husband in 1955, she founded the Rolling Meadows Public Library. They returned to New Jersey in 1970 where she was a reference librarian at the Lake Hiawatha Library until she retired and joined her daughter in Texas in 1995.

Memorial services were held at the Salado Methodist Church.

Lee Roy Kinsey, 78, of Salado died May 29 in Temple. Services were held May 31 at the First Baptist Church in Salado, with the Rec. Billy Johnson, the Rev. Darrell Dugger and the Rev. Brian Dunks officiating. Burial was in Salado Cemetery.

He was born at Beehouse, in Coryell County to Henry and Mary Nancy Katherine (Medat) Kinsey. He was a veteran of World War II and worked at Fort Hood for 28 years, where he farmed and ranched, before moving to Temple in January. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Salado where he was a Sunday school superintendent and a teacher. He also served as a deacon for 48 years.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Kinsey of Temple; three sons, Dr. Nolan Kinsey of Salado, Travis Kinsey of Moody, and Dr. Winston Kirsey of Boone, N.C.; a sister Madeline Cogburn of De Leon; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jerry Lewis Cobb, 63, of Salado, died in Houston June 23, 1999.

Services were held June 26 at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Salado with Rev. Jack Ables officiating.

The body was cremated.

He was born in Shreveport, LA on May 13, 1936 to Lewis and Isex Jordan Cobb. He serves in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot, retiring as a CW4 following 23 years of service. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Following his retirement from the Army, he was employed with the Evergreen Helicopter Company in Galveston for 10 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, LA. He moved to Salado in December of 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cabb of Salado, his mother, Inez Farmer of Arcadia, LA; three sons, Eugene Harris of San Antonio, James Harris of Belton and “Dub” Harris of Salado, one daughter, Dale Stone of Austin; two sisters, Barbara Walker of Simiboro, LA and Gloria Maddry of Homer, LA; 10 granddaughters, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

June F. Foitik McRoberts 77, of Austin, died June 4.

She was born April 15, 1922, to the late Robert G and Alice Berry Love Rich. She was past commissioner for Region 7 of the Clan Campbell Society of North America. She was designer of the Texas Blue Bonnet Tartan “Plain”, the official tartan of Texas by Concurrent House Resolution 242. She was also a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a charter member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Temple. She was the former owner/operator of the Thistles and Bluebonnets in Salado.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Stacy of Houston; a son Robert “Shelby” Foitik of Austin; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Foitik and her sister, Barbara Keiser.

Memorial services for Dan M. Parker, of Salado, will be 10 a.m. June 24 at Salado United Methodist Church.

Mr. Parker passed away June 20, 1999. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS on January 31, 1919.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. June 23 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Salado on Stagecoach Rd.

Mr. Parker lived in Salado with his wife, Gerrie R. Parker since 1981.

He retired here from Nashville, TN, where he was an office manager for NCR. He was an active member of the Salado Lions Club.

Mr. Parker served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

He and Gerrie were married on August 1, 1941.

He is survived by his wife Gerrie R. Parker of Salado; his daughter Margaret P. Honeycutt and her husband James Honeycutt, of Georgetown; his son Dan M. Parker, J., of Dalton, GA; and two sisters; Margaret Barrett and Mary Louis Ashcraft.

He is also survived by a grandson, Todd and his wife Kim Honeycutt; and great grandchild Brandon Honeycutt.

Memorial services for Jim R. McCracken of Salado will be held at the Salado United Methodist Church 10 a.m. May 22.

He died May 13 in Harker Heights.

He was born in Oklahoma City to Mack R. And Stella B. McCracken on May 25, 1930. He worked for General Motors Insurance division for 35 years working in Oklahoma City, San Francisco, New York City, El Paso, Kansas City, Charlotte, N.C. and Los Angeles. He retired in 1989 and moved to Salado.

He was an active volunteer in Salado community affairs. He was given the “Community Builder of the Year,” award by the Salado Masonic Lodge #296 in 1998. He was a member of the Lions Club, served on the board of trustees for the Salado Public Library, was a member of the COPS program and was an elder at the Presbyterian Church of Salado.

Survivors are his wife Virginia of Salado, a daughter, Molly Henry of Arlington, two sons, Patrick of Idaho Falls, ID, and Matthew of Houston; his mother and father Mr. & Mrs. Mack R. McCracken of Eddy; two sisters Norma Graham of Holly Lake and Anita Young of Rogers, AR., 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the home, 702 De Grummond Way, Salado, from 5-7 p.m. on May 21.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Salado, American Cancer Society, or the Salado Public Library.

Rajun Brit Owen age 14 of Salado, died Decem­ber 23, 2000 at his home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Dec. 27, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Salado. Minister Edd Melton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Cemetery west of Salado.

Rajun was born Sept. 26, 1986 in Temple, to Brit and Shannon Rauschen-berg Owen. Rajun was a student at Salado Interme­diate School.

Survivors include his parents, one sister Kegan Laramie Owen of Salado; paternal grandparents, Tommy and Jana Owen of Salado and maternal grandparents Charles and Judy Schoepf, of Mound, and Bryan and Sherazan Rauschenberg of Gates­ville.

Opal Irene Dulaney passes away at age 87

Service for Opal Irene Wilson Dulaney, age 87 of Belton were held Dec. 23 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev­erend Bobby Baggett and Minister Joe Baisden offi­ciating. Burial followed in the North Belton Cem­etery.

Mrs. Dulaney died Dec. 21 in a Belton nursing home.

She was born on June 7, 1913 to John S. and Carrie Lou Smith Wilson of the Summers Mill Com­munity. She was a descen­dant from the Pioneer Bell County family of S. S. Wilson. Mrs. Dulaney attended school in Holland. She married Marvin A. Dulaney on May 2, 1930 in Durant, Okla. In 1950, they moved from Salado to Belton, where they owned and operated retail businesses. In recent year , she had been active in the Belton Senior Center, and in volunteering in a nursing home. She was a member of the First United Method­ist Church in Belton since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 1967 and by a daughter, Carolyn Dulaney Doyal in 1970.

She is survived by a son, John Rance Dulaney and his wife, Janie; and a daughter Betty Crowson and her husband Jack, all of Belton; a sister Jessie L. Ferrell of Temple; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Shawn Floyd Mitchell passes away Nov. 25

Funeral services for Shawn Floyd Mitchell, age 21 of Salado were held Nov. 28, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Salado with Rev. Brian Dunks of­ficiating. Burial followed at the Salado Cemetery.

Shawn Floyd Mitchell died Nov. 25, 2000 in a Temple hospital.

Shawn was born May 30, 1979 in Temple to Don and Georgie (Moon) Mitch­ell. He moved to Salado 7 years ago from Stamford, Texas. He graduated from Salado High school in 1998 and was active with golf and basketball. He was currently attending Temple College where he played on the golf team. Shawn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salado.

Survivors include his parents, Don and Georgie Mitchell of Salado; one brother, Drew Mitchell of Salado and his grandmoth­er Irene Moon of Stam­ford.
