Sutton, D.L.

Services held for D.L. Sutton

D.L. Sutton, 69, of Salado, passed away Nov. 12, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Nov. 16 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton, with Rev. Joe Bentley officiating. Burial followed in Salado Cemetery.

He was born to Claude and Lesta Cockrell Sut-ton in Salado on Jan. 4, 1935, and graduated from Salado High School in 1953. He served in Europe in the U.S. Army. Sutton married Theresa Palkovits in Mannheim, Germany on May 27, 1959. He was employed as a truck driver with Wilsonart for 34 years.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Sutton, of Salado; one son, Henry Sutton, of Salado; three daughters, Regina McGregor and husband Larry, of Salado, Mary Ann Neal and husband Billy Fred, of Rogers, and Cathy Anderson and hus-band Phillip, of Belton; mother, Lesta Sutton, of Temple; brother, Elwood Sutton and wife Beverly, of Salado; two sisters, Betty Sue Pinkham and husband Bill of Lyman, SC, and Linda Moore and husband Munroe, of Salado.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Brandon McGregor, of Salado, Chris McGregor, of Morgan’s Point, Jamie McGregor, of Salado, Lindsey Anderson, of Belton, Ashley Anderson, of Belton, and Chuck Hoffman, Chesney Hoff-man, Dustin Hoffman and Megan Hoffman, all of Orlando, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Eric McGregor and Jaci McGregor, both of Salado.

Burkhart, Printus O.

PRINTUS O. BURKHART,
AGE 84, LUBBOCK

Printus O. Burkhart, formerly of Salado, passed away Oct. 14, 2004 in Lubbock.
He was born Jan. 20, 1920 in Bell County to Arthur and Minnie Burkhart. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps before entering the United State Army and serving during WWII. He received his Master’s in Education from Baylor University.

Burkhart married Doris Irvin on March 29, 1956 in Midland. He worked as an educator and principal for the Midland Independent School District before retiring in 1982. They moved to Lubbock in 2001. He was a member of High-land Baptist Church.

Burkhart is survived by his wife, Doris Burkhart, of Lubbock; a daughter, Lori Burkart, of Lubbock; sisters, Oma Thompson, of Waco, and Mildred Jones, of Victoria; brothers, Seth T. Burkart, of Corpus Christi, and Billy H. Bur-kart, of Fort Worth; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Oct. 16 at Highland Baptist Church in Lub-bock, with Rev. Bob Bat-son officiating. Sanders Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

The family has requested memorials be sent to the Highland Baptist Church Library, the American Lung Association or the First Baptist Church of Salado Building Fund.

Ribeiro, Mary L.

AGE 58, SALADO

Mary L. Ribeiro, 58, of Salado, died November 8, 2004 in a Temple hospital.
Mary was born November 21, 1945 to Fred and Maggie (Moore) McHam in Temple, Texas.
After completing her education, Mary went to work as a Teacher’s aide at Salado High School for the past 20 years.

She married Steve Ribeiro on August 13, 1969 in Salado. She spent most of her life here in Salado. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mary received the Golden Apple Award in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Mary is survived by her husband; Steve of Salado, son; Freddie of Temple, daughter; Marcellia D’Amora of Salado, grandchildren; Ethan Ribeiro, Stephen D’Amora, and Madison Nelson.

Visitation was Nov. 10 at Harper-Talasek Salado Funeral Home, North IH-35 and Blacksmith in Salado.

Brother Joe Keyes will officiate at funeral services 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holland City Cemetery.

Honoring her memory as pallbearers will be: Graciano Berumen, Joe Lee Washburn, Howard Sutton, Chet Sutton, J.R. Lester, and Earl Bragg. Memorials may be made to the Mary Ribeiro Scholarship Fund at Salado High School.

Galbraith Baker, Mary Elizabeth “Meg”

GALBRAITH BAKER, 83

Mary Elizabeth “Meg” Galbraith Baker, formerly of Alto, NM and Tucson, AZ, passed away Nov. 7, 2004. She had been temporarily residing at The Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock, an Alzheimer’s facility.

A family memorial service will be held 11a.m. Nov. 13 at the home of Beverly and Charlie Turnbo, her daughter and son-in-law, in Salado.

She was born Nov. 26, 1920, in Chattanooga, TN, to the Rev. Dr. William Fred and Mary Kate Galbraith. When she was four years old, she and her brothers, Will Fred and Wingfield (Deacon) moved to Denton with their parents when Dr. Galbraith pastored the First Presbyterian Church. She attended Denton public schools and was chosen Queen of Denton High School. She later attended Texas State Women’s College.

On Jan. 7, 1937, she married Frank W. Baker, also of Denton. They later moved to Lubbock, and St. Louis, MO; in 1980, they retired and moved to Alto, NM, eventually spending half of the year there and half in Tucson, AZ. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ruidoso, NM.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Baker Turnbo and Charlie Turnbo, of Salado; a son and daughter-in-law, Scot Curtis Baker and Paula Baker, of Glendora, CA; daughter-in-law, Carlyn Baker Mozingo, of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Fred Baker and Tonya Baker Devore, of Tennessee; Meghan Rainwater, of Colorado; and Laura and Todd Baker of California; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Frank; a son, Fred Baker; her brothers, Will Fred and Wingfield Galbraith; and her parents, the Rev. Dr. William Fred and Mary Kate Galbraith.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.

LeFloor Boggs, Barbara Helen

BOGGS, AGE 79, SALADO

Barbara Helen LeFloor Boggs, 79, of Salado, passed away Nov. 4, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at the Salado United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held Nov. 6 at the Masonic Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Boggs was born Jan. 22, 1925 in Beaumont, to the late Staten Rone and Alma Elizabeth Smith LeFloor, and grew up in Vidor. She graduated from Vidor High School in 1942 and attended La-mar College before mov-ing to California to work. She moved back to Texas and began working for Dupont, Orange, where she met her husband, Paul Boggs.

Her parents, two brothers, Eugene Lewis LeFloor and Bruce Edwin LeFloor and one grandson, Richard Boggs, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Paul Edwin Boggs, of Salado; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Bryan and Annalesia Boggs, of Mt. Pleasant, daughter and son in law, Lenice Boggs and Jack Smithrick, of Florence; sister, Nelda Ruth LeFloor LeBoeuf and her husband Rodney; brother- in-law, Don. W. Boggs, of Dallas; grandchildren, Jamie Smithrick Cowan and husband David, of Nashville, TN, Sarah Boggs, of Austin, Bryan Boggs, of College Station and Joe Boggs, of College Station, and great granddaughter, Olivia Claire Cowan.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Scott & White Hospice.

Sortland, Frankie S.

Frankie S. Sortland, age 77, of Temple, passed away Nov. 2, 2004 at Scott & White hospital.
She was born May 11, 1927 in Muleshoe, to Osborne and Clara Angeley, and was raised in the Cross Plains area. She received a B.A. degree in Health Services Management from Southwest Texas State University.

She was a manager in the health services field. She had lived in the area since 1976.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Stanley Sortland, in 1978.
Survivors include daughters, LaTina Bolick, of Salado, and Pamela Shipman, of Granbury; brothers, Rex Angeley, of Tuscon, AZ, and Jack Angeley, of Earth, TX; sisters, Natalie Klick, of Aurora, CO, and Judy Reynolds, of Dallas; four grandchildren, one great grandchild and one great great grandchild.

Memorials are request-ed to any local humane society.
Killeen Memorial Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Butler, Delia Dean

Delia Butler passes at age 80

Delia Dean Butler, 80, of Temple, died Oct. 26, 2004 in a Temple nursing center.
Grave side services were held 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in Salado Cemetery with Dr. Ramiro Pena officiating.

Butler was born to Otho and Rachael Huff Clark in Belfalls on December 7, 1923. She was a resident of Bell County most of her life. She married John Henry “Sonny” Butler in Temple on March 30, 1946. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include one son, Johnny Butler of Salado; one daughter, Linda Edmondson of Temple; one brother, Davis “Bo” Clark of Temple; one sister Jewell Wolff, of Holland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 1, 1994.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.

Ewton, Benton Thomas

Memorial service set for Benton Thomas Ewton

Benton Thomas Ewton, 19, of Salado, passed away Nov. 1, 2004 in Salado due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Salado Cemetery with a memorial service follow-ing at 3:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Salado United Methodist Church, with Pastor Grady Brittain officiating.

Ewton was born April 15, 1985 in Temple and graduated from Salado High School in 2003. He was a student at Temple College.

Survivors include his parents, Bill and Karen Ewton, of Salado; brother Cole Ewton, of Salado; sisters Virginia (Jenny) Ewton, Katelyn Ewton and Annalee Ewton, all of Salado; grandparents William and Judy Ewton, of Temple, and Charles and Marianne Fiorenza, of Kuntz; great grandpar-ents Virginia Larkin, of McAllister, OK, Leibert Clinkinbeard, of Kuntz and Rex Hall, of Garland; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Seaberry, Frances

Seaberry service held in Ft. Worth

Frances Seaberry, 79, formerly of Salado, passed away Oct. 15, 2004.
A cryptside service was held Oct. 19 at Green-wood Mausoleum in Fort Worth, with the Rev. Bill Hancock officiating.

Frances Seaberry was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Corsicana to Odle Dillard Conner and Annie Pearl Conner. She was one of seven children.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker and wife of 58 years to her husband, J.B. Seaberry, who preceded her in death.

In the early 1980s the couple moved to Salado to restore the Baines House and place it on the National Registry.

Seaberry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Weatherford. She is survived by a sister, Marge Dillard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth was in charge of arrangements.

Herring, Helen J.

Helen Herring services held Oct. 11 in Belton

Helen J. Herring, 61, of Belton, died at her residence Oct. 5, 2004.

Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton, with Rev. Billy Thomison and Rev. Billy Pedigo officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, south of Belton.

Herring was born to Robert Herman and Ev-elyn Thomison Herring in Belton on Sep. 6, 1943.

She was a lifelong resident of Bell County. Prior to her retirement in 1983, she was employed as a super-visor at the Learning Center in Fort Hood. She was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church in Belton.

Survivors include two sons, David Keith Harvell and Roy Glenn Harvell, both of Salado; two brothers, Bobby Herring, of Killeen, and Glenn Herring, of Belton; two sisters, Rita Leach and Donna Herring Edwards, both of Belton; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and twin sons, Robert Lynn Harvell and David Gleen Harvell of Sep. 26, 1960.
Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton is in charge of arrangements.
