Green, Dorothy Laverne

Dorothy Laverne Green passes away Oct. 8

Dorothy Laverne Green, 72, of Belton died at her residence October 8, 2004.
Graveside services were held Oct. 12 at McDowell Cemetery near Belton with Rev. Arthur Washburn officiating.

Dorothy Laverne Green was born to M.G. and Katie Knight Adams in Comanche on January 4, 1932. She was a resident of Belton most of her life. She married Herchel Alvin Green in Belton on Jan. 9, 1953. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Belton.

Survivors include one son, Johnny Alvin Green Sr., of Salado; one brother, Billy Wayne Adams, of Belton; one sister Mary K. McNeil, of Salado, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 4, 1983.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.

Haldy, William B.

Haldy services held Sep. 23

Funeral services for William B. Haldy, age 83, of Salado, were held Sep. 23 at First Presbyterian Church in Belton, with Rev. Judy Lijestrand officiating. Burial followed at the Lakeland Hills Memo-rial Park, between Burnet and Marble Falls. Max Copeland officiated.

Haldy passed away Sep. 20 in Temple.

He was born Oct 19, 1920, in San Antonio, to Benjamin Stephen and Rena Virginia (Milford) Haldy. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Photographer Petty Officer 1st Class.

He married Frances Ray Grant on Sep. 27, 1941 in San Antonio; she preceded him in death in 1989. He married Elizabeth Williams Morris on Aug. 31, 1991 in Belton.

Haldy was a project manager of special weapons for the Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base for 34 years. In San Antonio he coached little league. He moved to Granite Shoal at retirement and was active in civic affairs serving as city council-man, water commissioner and mayor.

He was a member of the Baptist Church in San Antonio and served as a Deacon at Granite Shoals. He was an Elder and Trustee at First Presbyterian Church in Belton. He was a member of Masonic Lodges in San Antonio, Granite Shoals and Salado.

Haldy was past patron of Eastern Star Chapter #435 in Marble Falls. He was a member of the Salado Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Haldy, and step-son, Brian Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Haldy, of Salado; one daughter, Kay Atwood and husband Tom, of Temple; one son, Billy Haldy, Jr. and wife Ellie, of Shreveport, LA; step-daughter, Leah Taggart and husband Jay, of Belton; step-daughter-in-law, Arnell Morris, of Waco; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Scott & White Hospice.

Dossman Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Cearley, Josie

Josie Cearley passes away Sep. 17 in Temple hospital

Josie Cearley, 76, of Belton, died Sep. 17 in a Temple hospital.

Graveside services were held Sep. 20 in Sal-ado Cemetery, with Rev. Andy Davis officiating.
Cearley was born to Ausie and Bertie Mae Capps Watson in Salado, on March 18, 1928. She was a lifelong resident of Bell County. She was a graduate of Belton High School. She married Howell Otis Cearley, Sr. in Belton on Feb. 25, 1949. Cearley was a member of First Baptist Church of Belton and the Golden Agers.

Survivors include two sons, Howell Otis Cearley, Jr., and Ausie Cearley, both of Belton; one daughter, Kay Thornton, of Belton; one sister, Lois Shepperd, of Belton; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of Aug. 22, 1985.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Salado Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 21, Salado, TX 76571, or the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5, Belton, TX 76513.

Williams, Wilma

Wilma Williams passes away

Services for Wilma Williams, of Salado, were held Sep. 1 at First Baptist Church of Salado with Rev. Brian Dunks officiating and being assisted by former pastors of the Baptist Church.

Wilma passed away Aug. 29 in a care center in Belton. She was born Sep. 30, 1915 to Simon Earnest Williams and Beulah McGuire Williams. She became a Christian when she was nine years old under the example and directions of her parents. She was baptized into the fellowship of the Mount Zion Baptist Church located between Rockdale and Minerva.

After graduating from Rockdale High School in 1931, she moved to Bell County with her family. Wilma attended a business college in Austin and secured a position with a major architectural firm in Austin. She worked for many years and made her home in Austin, where she continued her church connections with membership in the First Baptist Church of Austin.

After retirement, she petitioned the Baptist Foreign Mission Board for an assignment and was asked to fill a position in Ruslicon, Switzerland at the Theological Seminary. She served there for eight years. She lived in the dorm and made many worldwide friends among the students.

Wilma then relocated to Salado. She bought a house, made a home and became a member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as teacher of Bible, advisor and counselor and assisted in the library and in preparing newsletters and the Sunday Bulletin. She was an elected member of many committees, chosen to seek personnel and other Christian workers in the local church as well as in other areas in the Baptist Association. Wilma was financially instrumental in helping family members with the start up of businesses and securing degrees in education, secular as well as other fields. Her estate will continue to provide financial assistance to other Christian students for many years.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Thelma Pedigo. She is mourned by two brothers, Truett Williams and Rev. Guinn Williams and three sisters, Billye Fuller, Sibyl Smith and Patsy Hinsley.

She will be missed by many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and in-laws. Her local church family and foreign friends in many countries will also miss her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being accepted for the First Baptist Church of Salado to retire the building fund.

Visitation was Aug. 31 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, which was in charge of arrangements.

Sneed, Robert

Robert Sneed passes away

Robert Sneed, 61, of Kansas City, KS, and formerly of Salado, died August 3, 2004 at his residence.

The body was cremated. Burial will be in Salado Cemetery at a later date.

Sneed was born to Milton and Irene West Sneed in Kansas City, MO on April 13, 1943. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He recently retired from the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Sneed of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Julie Sneed, of Salado; one granddaughter; mother, Irene Sneed of Lees Summit, MO; one brother, James Sneed, of Clearwater Beach, FL; and one sister, Carol Hofstetter of Lees Summit, MO. He was preceded in death by one son, Rob Sneed, on February 27, 1988.

Holiman, Audrey B.

Audrey B. Holiman services held Aug. 7

Graveside services for Audrey B. Holiman, 95, were held August 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, in Edinburg. Holiman died August 1 in a Temple hospital.

She was born December 12, 1908 in Jamestown, NY, to Irvin A. Brown and Mabel B. Pickard Brown. She attended Virginia College in Roanoke, VA and earned her B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1933 and her M.A. degree from New York University in 1937.

She worked as a case-worker with the Dept. of Public Welfare in James-town, NY from 1936-38. She moved to Edinburg, working as a secondary teacher in Edinburg Public Schools from 1939-41.

On August 16, 1941 she married H. Wayne Holiman of Edinburg, owner of a Texaco service station which later became a Studebaker, Lincoln and Mercury dealership.

Holiman served on the planning and zoning board, the League of Women Voters, and as a Girl Scout leader. After raising her children, Holiman joined her husband in traveling for adventure and shell collecting. She was an exhibitor and member of the South Padre Island Shell Club for many years, and supporter and member of the Audubon Society. She moved to the area nine years ago.

Survivors include one son, H. Wayne Holiman, Jr., of Chula Vista, CA; two daughters, Anita Louise Oldham, of Belton, and Harriet McCord, of Comfort. She had eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May, 1995, after 54 years of marriage.

Hall, Michael James

Michael James Hall services held July 24

Services for Michael James Hall, 63, of Salado were held July 24 at Killeen Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Jimmy Towers officiating. Hall passed away July 18 in Temple.

He was born June 18, 1941, in Chicago, IL, and attended Lowell High School in Indiana, and also Indiana State University.

He served in the United States Navy, receiving a good conduct medal, and had been employed at the Pizza Palace in Killeen.

He had lived in Salado for the past six years.

Hall is survived by a son, Jeff Hall and wife Lori of Hayden, IN; daughter, Stacey Gerry of Coeur D’Alene, ID; two brothers, Jack Perry of Chicago, IL, and William Perry of Killeen; one sister, Carol Humble of Chicago, IL; and one grandchild.

Hall was laid to rest in Downers Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bell County Hospice.

Killeen Memorial Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Koch, Hunter Michael

Services for Koch infant held June 15

Funeral services for Hunter Michael Koch, infant son of Josh and Meghan Koch, of Temple, were June 15 at Grace Baptist Church, of Salado with Revs. John Warden and Elynn Johnston officiating. Hunter Michael was born May 10, 2004 in Temple and died in a Fort Worth Hospital on June 12, 2004. He is survived by his parents Josh and Meghan Koch, of Temple, and sister Zoe Mae.

He is also survived by paternal grandparents Alan Koch, of Salado and Jerri Koch, of Temple and maternal grandparent Brad and Melissa Lawrence, of Academy, and Roy John- son, of Bakersville, CA.

Paternal Great-Grand- parents are Carol John- ston, of Boulder, CO and Barbara Clevinger, of
LaPine, OR. Maternal Great-Grandparents are Jean and Delmer Bennight and Jerry and Boady John- son, all of Holland.

Great-Great Grandparents are Virginia Bisnett, of Salado; Harriss Bennight, of Holland and Virginia Benjamin, of Temple.

Scanio-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bell, Ronald James

Services planned for Bell

Ronald James Bell died May 23, 2004 at the age of 59. He was born in Cin­cinnati, OH on November 7, 1944, to Edward James Bell and Dorothy Burns Bell. He attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati, graduating in 1963.

He then joined the Navy where he served as a corpsman and, after an honorable discharge, he continued to serve as a Navy reservist.

He began his career in the computer industry in the 1960s, which brought him to Austin, in 1981. At the time of his death, he owned his own computer consulting business.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bell of Salado; daughter and daughter-­in-law, Rhonda Bell and Amy Boatman of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelly Bell of Seattle, WA; as well as numerous friends and business associates.

Services will be held IO a.m. May 26 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Salado.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans or the Rotary Club of Salado:

Meinhoefer, Ruth E.

Meinhoefer, 95, passes aya May 15

Private services are pending for Ruth E. Meinhoefer, 95, of Salado. She died May 15 in a Temple hospital.

She was born April 28, 1909, to J. Giles and Cora Howle Smith in Union, South Carolina. She attended R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

She came to Bell County in Oct. 2003, following the death of her first hubsnd, George A. Dentry, in 1968.

She is survived by a son, George Dentry and wife Dorothy, of Salado; a brother, Fred Smith and wife Mildred, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Margie Holcomb, of Jacksonville, FK; grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Dentry and wife Cathy, of Clearwater, FL; Sherri Lynne Mabry and husband David, of San Antonio; Timothy Brian Dentry and wife Kathryn, of Celina; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
