Services held for Fritzie Wolff

Fritzie Naola Wolff, 85, of Salado, died in a Temple hospital, March 15.

Funeral services were held March 18 at Heartfield Funeral home in Belton with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Burial was in Salado Cemetery.

Wolff was born to George and Cora Lawson Hennessee in Dallas County on Dec. 8, 1917. She married Doyle Woodrow Wolff in Coryell County on Oct. 1, 1938. She was a resi­dent of Bell County most of her life. Prior to her retire­ment, she worked as a wait­ress at Stagecoach-Inn in Salado. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Salado.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Wooley of Salado and Linda Kay Roberts of Holland; one sister, Wynama Johnson; eight grandchildren; 15 great­ grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle Woodrow Wolff on Oct. . 1981; one brother, Hughie Carberry; one son, Kenneth Wolff; and one granddaughter, Brenda Jackson.

Jim Dennis passes away Feb. 14

James E. (Jim) Dennis passed away at home on Feb. 14, 2003 in Salado, after nearly a two year battle with lung cancer.

Jim was born July 5, 1923 in Tyler, Texas to R.L. and Janie Whatley DeMis. After graduating from Tyler High School in 1941, Jim served three years in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Jim married Thelma Elizabeth (Teddy) Crabtree on Jan. 15, 1943. After the Army Air Corps, he entered the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in geology in 1949. After graduation Jim became an oil and gas exploration geologist with Standard of Texas Oil in Midland. The Dennis’ moved to Corpus Christi where Jim accepted a position as the District Geologist for Southern Minerals, Inc. (SOMICO).

Most of Jim’s profes­sional life was spent in Corpus Christi, for 13 years with SOMICO then as an independent petroleum geologist for over 20 years. Jim was president and owner of Jedco Corp., and oil gas exploration company. During his tenure in Corpus Christi, Jim was active in the Corpus Christi Geological Society, once serving as president. Jim was a lifetime member of the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association and belonged to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was also an early member of the Corpus Christi Geological Library, where Jim also served as an officer. Jim was active in the community, being a member of First United methodist Church and the “Cooper Class.” Jim was also an active father and member of the “Old Crab Patrol” in Boy Scout Troop 3. Jim loved golf and much of his free time was spent playing at the Corpus Christi Country Club.

Jim and Teddy moved to Salado in 1989 where he remained active as an exploration geologist until he retired in 1993. Jim enjoyed playing golf nearly every day at Mill Creek Country Club and once as the Men’s Golf Association President. Jim had three “hole-in-ones” during his many rounds at Salado with his golfing friends (the Homeowners Group and the Bandits) and his brother-in-law, Ned Cross, who recently passed away. Jim was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and many other community groups.

Jim was the youngest of seven siblings. His parents, sister, and five brothers preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his wife, Teddy; his daughter, Karen Dennis Somers; his son, James Gregory Dennis; a daughter-in-law, Terri Dennis; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Somers, Jeffrey Dennis Somers, David Christian Dennis and Bradley Christopher Dennis.

Memorials may be made to the Salado United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 771, Salado, TX 76571; the Salado Cemetery Association, Inc., P.O. Box 21, Salado; and VistaCare, 819 S. 5th St., Temple TX, 76504; or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service was held Feb. 17 at the SUMC, with Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Arrangements were provided by the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Salado.

Bridges, age 90, dies at his residence

Funeral services for N. E. (Bill) Bridges, 90 of Salado, were held 10 a.m. Jan. 2 at the First Baptist Church in Salado with Rev. Brian Dunks, Rev. Mike Bergman, Rev. Derald Dugger and Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Salado Cemetery.

The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.

Bridges died Dec. 30 at his Temple residence.

Bridges was born Aug, 20, 1912 in Prairie Dell, the son of Gilford Bridges and Ida Mae (Livingston) Bridges. He was a 1931 graduate of Salado High School where he starred in baseball and basket­ball.

Bridges married Lil­lian “Doodle” Bridges Dec. 8, 1933 in Salado. The couple made their home in Salado where he farmed and was a breeder of registered Her­eford Cattle. He was a two time President of the Capitol Area Here­ford Association.

Bridges was ordained a deacon at Prairie Dell Baptist Church and con­tinued to serve actively as a deacon at First Bap­tist Church Salado until 1992. He was a trustee of the church as well as the treasurer for 42 years. He also taught the Men’s Bible class for many years.

Bridges was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Andrew Sharp, and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Doodle Bridges of Salado; daughter Geneva Baker of The Woodlands; one brother. Granville Bridges of Dallas and many nieces and neph­ews.

Howerton, Jr. passes away at age 82

James M. Howerton, Jr., 82 of Salado, died in a Waco hospital Dec. 30.

Graveside services were held Jan. 2, at Salado Cemetery with Rev. Joe Bentley officiating.
James M. Howerton, Jr. was born to James M. and Lillian Beck Howerton in Barksdale, Texas on Feb. 24, 1920. He received a Bachelors degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and engaged in post-graduate studies at Baylor University. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army AirCorps. He married Maxine Irene Hodge in Temple in December 1947. Prior to his retire­ment, he was employed as a salesman with the Bill Young and Ted Connell automobile dealerships in Killeen. He also sold oil leases and drilled for oil. He was employed with the Texas Employment Com­mission office in Temple. He and his wife formerly operated the Howerton Grocery Store and Gas Station in Salado.

Howerton attended the Salado United Methodist church where he had taught Sunday school.

Survivors include one son, James R. Howerton of Salado; 2 grandchil­dren, James Austin Howerton of Belton and Jessica Howerton of Salado; and two great grandchildren Tori Howerton and Cortney How­erton, both of Salado. He was preceded in death by his wife Sept. 30, 1999.

Services held for Sadie Hamrick Northam

Mrs. Sadie Hamrick Northam, 92, of Belton, died in a Belton nursing center Dec. 25.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Minister Joe Baisden and Minister James Haney officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery south of Belton.

Mrs. Northam was born to Frank and Mabry Kirby Hamrick in Keys Valley on March 25, 1910. She was a lifelong resident of Bell County. She married Charles Clifton Northam in Belton on Nov. 20, 1929. She was a member of Belton Church of Christ.

Survivors include three son , Bill ortham, Jack Northam and Joe Northam, all of Belton; one sister, Jessie Foster of Salado; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchitdren; and two great great grandchil­dren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 8, 1982.

Dr. Clyde D. Goodnight passes away

Services for Dr. Clyde D. Goodnight, 78, of Little River-Academy was Dec. 30 at the Little River United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Bellomy officiating. Graveside service was in Holland Cemetery. He passed away Dec. 28 at his home.

Dr. Goodnight was born March 3, 1924 in Holland to Owen and Lillian Duck Goodnight. He graduated from Holland High School in 1941. He attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship, graduating in 1946. He then graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis in 1956, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He was a family practice physician in Holland and Little River-Academy for 30 years.

He played professional football for six years; drafted by the Green Bay Packers and later played for the Washington Redskins, attending medical school in the off season.

He interned at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple, was a member of the Little River United Methodist Church, a member of the Lions Club, served on the board of the Bell County M.H.M.R., was on the board of directors of the Temple Symphony Orchestra, was a member of the Americus Medicus, member of the Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.

He was one of the founders of the Tablerock Festival of Salado ,which holds performances at the Goodnight Ampitheater.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Fulcher Goodnight of Little Ricer-Academy; one daughter, Eva Sheryl Goodnight of Little River-Academy; two sisters, Virginia Ragsdale, Balton; and Mrs. Hubert (Betty) Nutt, Valley Mills; two brothers, Edward Goodnight, Bartlett; and Wayne Goodnight, Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers and sisters.

In Lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Temple Symphony Orchestra, Tablerock Festival of Salado, VistaCare, or any charity of your choice.

Diane Marie Mulholland passes away Jan. 11

Diane Marie Mulholland, 68, of Salado, died Jan. 11, 2004 in a Temple hospital.

A private family memorial will be held Jen. 14 with burial in Bellwood Cremator, Temple.

She was born Jan. 1, 1936 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Lowell Mussellman and Mildred Gaskell Musselman.

She is survived by a son. Scott Mulholland, of King­wood; daughters. Suzan Gough, of St. Petersburg, FL and Heidi Fillip of Salado; mother, Mildred Musselman, of Deltona, FL; brothers, Dick Musselman, of Palm Harbor, FL and Denny Musselman, of Roswell , GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren.

Gravink memorial service Jan. 12

Ann Gordon Gravink, 67, died peacefuIly on Dec. 31, 2003 of cancer.

She was bom in Hous­ton on Dec 9, 1936 to DeWitt and Elizabeth Gordon. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Donald J. Gravink; daugh­ter, Kathy Young; sons Jay Gravink and DeWitt “Dee” Gravink: and sister Jean Gordon.

As a child she attended St. Anne’s, Kinkaid and St John’s in Houston. and graduated high school at St. Stephen’s in Austin. She made her debut in Houston with the Allegro Assembly and HCC in 1957-1958.

She married Donald Gravink in 1958 and throughout the years made homes in Houston, Corpus Christi, New Braunfels, Austin, Lago Vista, Georgetown and Salado. She was active in politics at the local. state and national levels. She was a Junior League member and volunteered for numerous charities.

A memorial service will be held at Salado United Methodist Church at 3:30pm. Jan. 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, St. Stephen’s Epis­copal School or The Salado Family Relief Fund P.O. Box 461, Salado, TX 76571

Roberson services today

Funeral services for Homer Roberson, 70, of Salado, will be held 3 p.m. Dec. 30, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Bentley officiating.

Roberson died Dec. 25, 2004 in a Temple hospital.

Homer Roberson was born Oct. 28, 1934 in Delhi, LA, the son of Homer Douglas Roberson and Susie Taylor Roberson. He retired from the United State Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Madolyn Roberson, of Salado, five sons, Homer Roberson Jr., of Lubbock, Rodney Lester, of Salado, Rickey Lester, of Salado, Ronald Lester, of Belton, and Roy Lester, Jr., of Academy; two daughters, Dee Richardson, of Florida, and Brenda, Hodges of Salado. He is also survived by a brother, Douglas Roberson, of Louisiana, sister, and Ruth Roberson, of Little Rock, AR, as well as 16 grandchildren.

Georgie Street services held Dec. 24

Georgie Elizabeth Brewer Street passed away Dec. 22, 2004 in Temple. Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, with Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 8, 1922, in May, Brown County, to Harry A. and Etta J. (Wheeler) Brewer. She grew up in the May community and was a member of the May Methodist Church. She graduated from May High School and was valedictorian of Daniel Baker College in 1943.

She married Ross Street July 4, 1943, in Camp Bowie, GA. She taught at May High School and Rising Star High School, while he served overseas during WWII. He preceded her in death in 1984. Beginning in 1948, she worked for 13 years for Rising Star Hospital and Dr. Ben Bradley and his clinic. Later she worked as a Laboratory Medical Technologist at Brownwood’s Memorial and Community Hospitals. For the last five years, she had lived with her daughter in Salado. She was a member of the Salado United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Early, and had served as President in UMW and CWU in Brownwood.

She was also a member of the Owen’s Family Community Club and Owens Extension Club. In Salado, she was a member of the Monday Club, Prime Timers Group and was Shepherd at her church.

Survivors are two daughters: Marietta Dobbins, of Highland’s Branch, CO, and Sara Beth Oyler, of Salado. She is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
