Robert Sneed passes away

Robert Sneed, 61, of Kansas City, KS, and formerly of Salado, died August 3, 2004 at his residence.

The body was cremated. Burial will be in Salado Cemetery at a later date.

Sneed was born to Milton and Irene West Sneed in Kansas City, MO on April 13, 1943. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He recently retired from the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Sneed of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Julie Sneed, of Salado; one granddaughter; mother, Irene Sneed of Lees Summit, MO; one brother, James Sneed, of Clearwater Beach, FL; and one sister, Carol Hofstetter of Lees Summit, MO. He was preceded in death by one son, Rob Sneed, on February 27, 1988.

Audrey B. Holiman services held Aug. 7

Graveside services for Audrey B. Holiman, 95, were held August 7 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, in Edinburg. Holiman died August 1 in a Temple hospital.

She was born December 12, 1908 in Jamestown, NY, to Irvin A. Brown and Mabel B. Pickard Brown. She attended Virginia College in Roanoke, VA and earned her B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1933 and her M.A. degree from New York University in 1937.

She worked as a case-worker with the Dept. of Public Welfare in James-town, NY from 1936-38. She moved to Edinburg, working as a secondary teacher in Edinburg Public Schools from 1939-41.

On August 16, 1941 she married H. Wayne Holiman of Edinburg, owner of a Texaco service station which later became a Studebaker, Lincoln and Mercury dealership.

Holiman served on the planning and zoning board, the League of Women Voters, and as a Girl Scout leader. After raising her children, Holiman joined her husband in traveling for adventure and shell collecting. She was an exhibitor and member of the South Padre Island Shell Club for many years, and supporter and member of the Audubon Society. She moved to the area nine years ago.

Survivors include one son, H. Wayne Holiman, Jr., of Chula Vista, CA; two daughters, Anita Louise Oldham, of Belton, and Harriet McCord, of Comfort. She had eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May, 1995, after 54 years of marriage.

Michael James Hall services held July 24

Services for Michael James Hall, 63, of Salado were held July 24 at Killeen Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Jimmy Towers officiating. Hall passed away July 18 in Temple.

He was born June 18, 1941, in Chicago, IL, and attended Lowell High School in Indiana, and also Indiana State University.

He served in the United States Navy, receiving a good conduct medal, and had been employed at the Pizza Palace in Killeen.

He had lived in Salado for the past six years.

Hall is survived by a son, Jeff Hall and wife Lori of Hayden, IN; daughter, Stacey Gerry of Coeur D’Alene, ID; two brothers, Jack Perry of Chicago, IL, and William Perry of Killeen; one sister, Carol Humble of Chicago, IL; and one grandchild.

Hall was laid to rest in Downers Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bell County Hospice.

Services for Koch infant held June 15

Funeral services for Hunter Michael Koch, infant son of Josh and Meghan Koch, of Temple, were June 15 at Grace Baptist Church, of Salado with Revs. John Warden and Elynn Johnston officiating. Hunter Michael was born May 10, 2004 in Temple and died in a Fort Worth Hospital on June 12, 2004. He is survived by his parents Josh and Meghan Koch, of Temple, and sister Zoe Mae.

He is also survived by paternal grandparents Alan Koch, of Salado and Jerri Koch, of Temple and maternal grandparent Brad and Melissa Lawrence, of Academy, and Roy John- son, of Bakersville, CA.

Paternal Great-Grand- parents are Carol John- ston, of Boulder, CO and Barbara Clevinger, of
LaPine, OR. Maternal Great-Grandparents are Jean and Delmer Bennight and Jerry and Boady John- son, all of Holland.

Great-Great Grandparents are Virginia Bisnett, of Salado; Harriss Bennight, of Holland and Virginia Benjamin, of Temple.

Services planned for Bell

Ronald James Bell died May 23, 2004 at the age of 59. He was born in Cin­cinnati, OH on November 7, 1944, to Edward James Bell and Dorothy Burns Bell. He attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati, graduating in 1963.

He then joined the Navy where he served as a corpsman and, after an honorable discharge, he continued to serve as a Navy reservist.

He began his career in the computer industry in the 1960s, which brought him to Austin, in 1981. At the time of his death, he owned his own computer consulting business.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bell of Salado; daughter and daughter-­in-law, Rhonda Bell and Amy Boatman of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelly Bell of Seattle, WA; as well as numerous friends and business associates.

Services will be held IO a.m. May 26 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Salado.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans or the Rotary Club of Salado:

Meinhoefer, 95, passes aya May 15

Private services are pending for Ruth E. Meinhoefer, 95, of Salado. She died May 15 in a Temple hospital.

She was born April 28, 1909, to J. Giles and Cora Howle Smith in Union, South Carolina. She attended R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

She came to Bell County in Oct. 2003, following the death of her first hubsnd, George A. Dentry, in 1968.

She is survived by a son, George Dentry and wife Dorothy, of Salado; a brother, Fred Smith and wife Mildred, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Margie Holcomb, of Jacksonville, FK; grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Dentry and wife Cathy, of Clearwater, FL; Sherri Lynne Mabry and husband David, of San Antonio; Timothy Brian Dentry and wife Kathryn, of Celina; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Leader, bank founder Greenwood passes away

Community leader and bank founder Samuel Ross (S.R.) Greenwood, died April 10, 2004 at the age of 82.

Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church in Temple at noon April 14. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. April 13 at Harper­Tula k Funeral Home of Temple.

He was born September 1, 1921 at Speegleville. Texas the son of Samuel Tillian Greenwood and Rosa Oliver Greenwood.

S.R. was preceded in death by his parent, his brothers, Lawrence Lee Greenwood. Roy Green­wood and Marion Wes Greenwood, his sister, Mary Lois Greenwood, his son. Samuel Tillian Greenwood II, and the mother of his children Clara Ann Hejl Greenwood.

He is survived by his beloved wife Sindy Jaster Greenwood, of Salado; his daughter Gayle Greenwood Pitts, of Houston, and his son Fletcher Hejl Greenwood of Austin.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he considered his pride and joy; Samuel Greenwood Pitts and wife Missy, of Dallas; Christopher Rowan Pitts of Houston; Emily Claire Greenwood-Kuykendall, of Temple; Sydney Schuyler Greenwood-Kuykendall, of Belton; Allie Ann Morgan Greenwood and Mason Douglas Ross Greenwood of Round Rock. Also the newest joys in his life, great grandchildren: Chlose Nicole Rodocker, of Belton and Samel Greenwood Pitts, Jr., of Dallas.

Ross served in the Air Force during World War II, but his lifetime career was in the banking industry.

He was past president of Temple National Bank, Inter First Bank and found­ing chairman of Salado National Bank in 1979. He was a director of Ennis State Bank, Texas Indepen­dent Bank in Dallas and Commercial State Bank in Palmer.

In 1976, he was elected president of the Texas Bank­ers Association. He had served on the Adminis­trative Council, Historical Committee, and chairman of the New Facilities Com­mittee. He was a member of the Governing Council of the American Bankers Association, as well as serv­ing on the ABA’s Gov­ernment Relations Committee, Communica­tion Council, National Mort­gage Finance Committee and chairing the ABA subcommittee of Housin and Urban Development.

Greenwood was chairman and past president of the Salado Chamber of Commerce, Temple Chamber of Commerce, Salad Lions Club, Temple Lions Club, Temple USO, Governor’s Committe on Aging in Austin and the board of trustees of the Central Texas Regional Medical Education Foundation. He also was a director of the Texas Independent Bankers Association in Austin, the Independent Brokerage Corporation of America in Dallas, American Income Life Insurance Corporation in Waco, the Texas Society on Aging in Austin, the National Advisory Commil­tee of the White House Conference on Aging in Washington DC. the Ameri­can Digestive Disease Soci­ety in Washington, the Texas United Community Service of Austin, the Temple Law Enforcement Board and Paul Quinn Col­lege in Waco.

A lifelong Methodist, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Temple. He served a Chairman of the Board of Stewards of the First United Methodist Foundation in Ft. Worth, chairman of Wes­leyan Homes, Inc. and its Finance Committee in Geor­getown. He was a Lay Leader for the Temple Dis­trict and served five terms as First United Methodist Finance Chairman.

Greenwood was the recipient of many awards over his lifetime. To name a few: The State of Israel “Jerusalem Peace Award,” the Temple Jaycees Out­standing Citizen Award and its of the Year Award, and the Texas Society on Aging’s Distinguished Ser­vice Award.

He was also proud to be a Mason, Shriner and members of Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, VFW and American Legion.

Lankford passes away April 9

Funeral services for Doyle Dean Lankford, 71, of Salado, were held April 12, 2004 at Dossman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bobby Ellis offici­ated. Burial followed in Resthaven Cemetery.

He passed away April 9, 2004 in Austin.

He was born to Rev. Tommy and Ima Brown Lankford on July 17, 1932 in Salado. He married Car­olyn Boales on Sept. 9, 1960 in Killeen. He was a lifelong resident of Bell County. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lankford; daughter and son-in-law, Regina Lankford Beam and Kevin; son, Gregory Lankford; and six grand­children, all of Salado. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, T.J. Lankford.

Sparks passes away at age 79

Funeral services for Sammie Bryan Sparks, 79, of Salado were held March 31, 2004 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Skip Blancett and Rev. Grady Britain officiating. Burial followed at the Salado Cemetery.

She was born Sammie Joyce Bryan on Aug. 30, 1924, in Davidson, OK and was raised in Freerick, OK She was the second of six children to Gladyse Cecilia Estes and Joseph Columbus Bryan. She married William (Bill) Sparks on April 14, 1945 in Muskogee, OK and became the proud parents of two daughters, Sandra Jo and Cindy Kay.

She was a hard worker and was employed primarily by the general government as a budget analysis. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a yellow-dog Democrat.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Edward Bryan and sister, Wanda Joe Brown Elliott.

She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of almost 59 years; daughters, Sandra Grossman, of The Woodlands, and Cindy and husband, Brad Weiwel, of Austin. She is also survived by her sisters, Virginia Felts and husband, Bill, of Afton, OK; Tommye Hiler and husban, Hugh, of Grandbury; China Cortina and husband, Angel, of Islanmorada, FL, and Sherry Bryan of Hurst.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly Nicole Grossman, Nikki Kay and husband, Zack Yazici, of The Woodlands, Samuel Bradford Weiwel, Andrew William Weiwel, and Zachary Bryan Weiwel, of Austin; and one great-granddadghter, Katie Ashley Grossman, of The Woodlands.
