Famed fiddler Johnny Gimble of Dripping Springs and formerly of Salado passed away on May 9, 2015, having suffered several strokes in his final years, according to his daughter Cindy.
Gimble lived in Salado in the 1980s when he wasn’t touring with Willie Nelson, or appearing on Television as member of The Million Dollar Band on Hee Haw and with a variety of musical acts on Austin City Limits.

Helen Maurice Hendrickson
Helen Maurice Hendrickson (nee Hutchens), 96, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on April 1, 2015 at home. Born and raised in Salado, TX, she lived in Freehold, NJ for many years before moving to Toms River, NJ. Helen was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Salado. She grew up loving music and enjoyed many years as a piano teacher.

Don Powell Gilchrest, of Salado, passed away on April 1, 2015.
Services were held April 4 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton with the Rev. Andy Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Services for J. R. Cooper were held March 31, at the Presbyterian Church in Salado with Carl Thompson officiating. Inurnment will be private.
Jack Cooper died on March 28, 2015 at his residence. He was 79 years old.

Don L. Wilson, 81, passed away at his home in Houston on March 27, 2015.
He was born January 15, 1934 in Salado to James W. and Faye Wilson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Carolyn and Maxine.
Lt. Col. Russell Hinote
Services for Lt. Col. Russell Hinote, 88, of Salado were at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, Friday, March 20, 2015 with full military honors and a Masonic internment service. Broecker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lt. Col. Russell J. Hinote was born on February 9, 1927 in Champaign, Illinois to Russell Charles Hinote and Blanche Lindseth Hinote. He passed away in Temple, TX on March 15, 2015 with his family at his side.

Arline Singer, 85, of The Woodlands and formerly of Salado passed away March 19, 2015.
She was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin on November 7, 1929.
Royce Lynn Vernon
Royce Lynn Vernon, age 86 and formerly of Salado, died at home on March 19, 2015 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born on February 21, 1929 in Lockney, Texas and resided in Pflugerville, Texas at the time of his passing.
