Salado Eagles are a win away from a trip to the 4A State Baseball Tournament. The Eagles beat Jasper 10-1 Thurs. May 31 and will play game 2 at 5 p.m. Sat. June 2 at Montgomery High School (22825 TX-105). If necesary, Game 3 will follow 30 minutes after Game 2.

Salado faces Jasper in Region III final

Salado Eagles will play Jasper in the 4A Region III baseball finals after beating Huffman Hargrave in a best-of-three series last week. Jasper beat the #3-ranked Robinson Rockets, 3-1, 5-9 and 13-1.

Salado and Jasper will play a best-of-three series with all games at Montgomery High School (22825 TX-105). Game 1 will be Thurs., May 31 at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be Sat., June 2 at 5 p.m. with Game 3 (if necessary) to follow 30 minutes after Game 2.

Salado Eagles came from behind in both of their games against the Lorena Leopards and will now face the Huffman Hargrave Falcons in the Regional Semi-final round of the UIL 4A Baseball playoffs.

Jacob Wilk hit a single, knocking in two runs in the top of the eighth and giving Salado a 7-4 lead over the Lorena Leopards. The Eagles defense gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth but Caleb Self and Ryan Oakes caught fly balls to the outfield and Jacob Wilk struck out a batter to secure the extra inning win for Salado 7-5 on May 18.
The win gave Salado its first win over Lorena in the best-of-three series.

Five runs in fifth put Salado over La Grange

Salado Eagles had six singles in the fifth, scoring five runs to pull ahead of the La Grange Leopards in their one-game playoff on May 3, winning 5-4.

Softball series continues on May 5

Emma Tatsch homered to right field, scoring two runs to lead China Spring over the Salado Lady Eagles in the bottom of the seventh of their first game in a best-of-three series for the Region III 4A Area playoff.

Salado will play game two at 11 a.m. May 5 at the Waco ISD Sports Complex. Game three, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes after game two.

Girls golf qualifies for State Tournament

Salado Lady Eagles Golf team placed second in the 4A Region III Girls Golf Championship at Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, qualifying for the State Meet May 21-22 at Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls. The Lady Eagles shot 369 (+81) in Round 1 and 360 (+72) in Round 2 for a total of 729. Liberty Hill took first with 331 (+43) Round 1 and 333 (+45) Round 2 for a total of 664. Maddy Bourland placed 11th individually shooting 90 in the first round and 88 in the second for a total of 178. Taylor Rich tied for 12th shooting 90 and 89 for a 179 total; Jamie Rich placed 16th shooting 90 and 91 for a 181 total; Avery Hyer placed 17th shooting 99 and 94 for a 193 total; Avery Piatt tied for 19th shooting 103 and 92 for a 195 total. 4X400 Meter Relay heading to State

Salado Lady Eagles 4X400 Meter Relay team will compete at the State Track Meet in Austin May 11-12 after placing second in the Region 3 4A Track Championships held at Sam Houston State University April 27-28. Several Lady Eagles competed in the Regional Meet. The 4X400 Meter Relay, according to Coach Corey Baird, “ran a blazing personal record and broke the current school record” with a time of 4:02.23. The previous school record of 4:03.89 was set in 2005. The team is made up of (from left) Reginia Deen, Samantha Vargas, Elizabeth Ford, Taylor Rich. Jaci McGregor competed in the 800m (fifth, 2:25) and 1600 Meter (fourth, 5:28 a personal record). Elizabeth Ford placed fifth in High Jump with a mark of 5’2. Lady Eagles sweep Navasota, face China Spring in Area round

Salado Lady Eagles will face China Spring in the Area Round of the UIL softball playoffs with a three-game series beginning May 3.

Games are scheduled to be played at the Waco ISD Sports Complex (1401 S. New Road) at 7 p.m. May 3 and 11 a.m. May 5 with the third game (if necessary) to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second.

China Spring, the third place team from District 17-4A, beat Mexia, the second place team from District 18-4A, in two games: 6-1 and 11-0.

Salado swept Navasota in the Bi-District round of the playoffs, ending both games by the Run Rule with victories of 10-0 on April 26 and 14-1 on April 28.

Liberty Hill, the runner up in Salado’s District 19-4A, beat Giddings 5-1 and will face Gatesville in the Area Round.

Lampasas (third place in District 19-4A) lost to Caldwell 15-10 and 12-6 in the Bi-District round and Leander Glenn (fourth place in District 19-4A) lost to LaGrange 7-1 in the Bi-District round.
