Pleasant Grove ends Salado’s football season

The No. 1 Pleasant Grove Hawks did just that in their area round game against Salado on Nov. 23 in Frisco’s Ford Center, winning 42-14.

For the first four minutes of their bi-district game, it looked as if the Rusk Eagles might give the Salado Eagles a challenge on Nov. 15 at Corsicana’s Tiger Stadium.
Rusk took the opening kickoff of the game and marched 66 yards in nine plays, overcoming a fumble at the Salado 20-yard line and scoring on a 23-yard pass from Landon Gates to Jaden Rushing. Gates hit Brennan Lucien in the end zone for a 2-point conversion and 8-0 lead with 8:45 left in the first.

Salado- The cold weather did not slow up Salado Eagles ground game as three rushers went over 100 yards as the “Vaunted Slot-T was executed to perfection. The Salado Offensive Linemen Bryce Dobbins, Joe Sampson, Gavin Keyser, Nick Sibbitt and Avery Womack wore down the Mustangs Defensive Lineman and opened holes for running backs Wrook Brown, Reid Vincent and Hunter Turk to rack up 442 yards of offense on the night.

With just over two minutes remaining, Salado Eagles were driving in Connally Cadet territory on a third-and-two when for the first time in the game an official pulled the flag from his pocket against the Eagles. The false start call moved the Eagles back five yards and changed the entire outcome of the game.

Eagles beat Taylor 24-21 to improve to 3-1 going into district play
With 30 seconds left on the clock, Wrook Brown’s 41 yard field goal doinked the crossbar but went over to lift the Salado Eagles over the Taylor Ducks on their own homecoming here in Taylor. The kick gave Salado a 24-21 lead, which they secured for the win when Latrell Jenkins fell on a fumble after a long pass and run with 13 seconds left.
