Salado Eagles lost a non-district home game to the Copperas Cove Bull-dawgs March 6.
The Dawgs took advantage of two hits, a walk and an error in the top of the first to score three runs.
Cove’s B Hodges double to lead off the third inning, at which point Coach Kreece Cooper brought B Farr to the mound, but Jaylen Smith singled to left to score Hodges for a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth, Nick Izquierdo doubled, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Justin Velesky. Michael Goudeau doubled and pinch runner Cameron Petet scored the final run for the Dawgs for a sizeable 6-0 lead.
Salado answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dalton Hawes bunted to reach first. Rustin Hale hit a grounder and an error by the Dawg shortstop allowed Hale to reach second and Hawes to get to home for a 6-1 score with one out.
Drew Dobbins drove in Hale on a hard grounder to centerfield for a double for a 6-2 score. Mac Miller doubled to deep right to score Dobbins and a 6-3 score with one out. The Cove pitcher threw for a pop-up and a strikeout to get out of the frame.
Max Marin came in to pitch for Salado and shut down the Cove batters, forcing them to fly outs and a pop up.
With one out in the final frame, Ryan Oaks walked and went to second on a passed ball. Hawes popped up to second for the second out before Jacob Wilk hit a line drive to center for a double, scoring Oaks. He was left stranded as Cove pitcher Josh Ropple got the final out on a strikeout.
Oaks got the loss on the mound, pitching three innings. He struck out two batters and gave up four hits. Farr gave up five hits in three innings of relief, striking out three batters.
