The Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education department’s College for Kids program continues in August. Registration is open now for a variety of fun and hands-on learning classes directed to youngsters three years to high school-age in subjects such as science, computers, arts and crafts, life skills, languages and more. Some of the August classes include:
App Inventor (age 10-14): Students will learn to create their very own app using a cloud-based application. The simplest app to a complex game can be created with blocks instead of Java programming. Software engineering concepts including logics, variables loops and data types will also be taught. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 8-11, from 12 – 3 p.m. The cost is $75.
Web Design (age 14 and older): Teens will learn to create an eye-catching website and load it to the Internet. Course topics include HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and Jquery. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 1-4, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $75.
Snap, Crackle, Pop: A Chemistry Journey (age five and older): Young “scientists” will mix safe concoctions that will either snap, crackle or sizzle before they pop. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 1-4, from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $75.
Spanish (age 7-11): Learn various customs and courtesies along with phrases, numbers, colors, weeks, months and elementary sentence structure for initial conversation. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 8-11, from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $45.
French (age 7-13): This class focuses on the alphabet, numbers and basic grammar. Students will practice introductions, asking for directions and other simple conversational phrases. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 8-11, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $45.
Drawing and Sketching (age eight and older): Learn the basics of sketching and drawing skills using pencil and charcoal. Class projects encourage creative thinking and allow students to continue developing and practicing their artistic skills. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 8-11, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $65.
Creative Cookies (age seven and older): Learn how to make, cut out, bake and decorate homemade sugar cookies. Students should bring their favorite cookie cutter. The class is Friday, August 5 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The cost is $49.
The Moon Made Me Do It (age 6-12): Explore truths about the moon such as the effects lunar cycles actually have on living organisms. The class is Saturday, August 13 from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $35.
Babysitter Training (age 10 and older): This class helps teach youngsters to be a safe and responsible babysitter. Topics include safety, discipline, first aid and basic child care. Students will also develop leadership skills and learn how to create a babysitting business. The class is Saturday, August 20 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cost is $95.
Arts and Crafts (age 6-10): Students will experiment with new methods of expression in this fun, hands-on class which stimulates creative, out-of-the-box thinking. The class is Monday – Thursday, August 1-4, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $65.
