David Charles Barnard

Services for David Charles Barnard, 70, Salado will be private.

Barnard died May 6, 2011 at a local hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Austin to Charles and Yvonne Barnard on November 20, 1940.

Barnard received his undergraduate from University of Texas in 1963.  He received his Masters in Business from the University of Texas in 1967.   He was a member of the University marching band, playing brass instruments as well as a fraternity member actively boating and skiing when not in school.

He joined General Foods in 1967.  He spent his 32 year business career, and became Vice President for Sales Systems at the combined Kraft General Foods Company.  He was promoted seven times in his career and awarded numerous awards for sales and leadership within the company.  One of his passions was organizing and leading the Phillip Morris Invitational Golf Tournement each year. 

Barnard  was active in every community he lived in.  While at Kraft headquarters in Connecticut he raised the funds needed to rebuild the Ridgefield Methodist church which was destroyed by fire.

He was also an officer in the Army National Guard.

At the age of 32, David contracted Multiple Sclerosis.  He spent several years in treatment on the east coast before retiring from Kraft General Foods and returning to Texas.  He became a member of the Rotary Club of Georgetown and became a lifetime Paul Harris Fellow.  He was secretary and treasurer of the club for many years.  An active participant in school mentoring, he helped many children in the Georgetown elementary and middle school.

David and his wife of 25 years Gale, moved to Salado 12 years ago and own a growing business in authentic antiques:  Barnard Antiques is located at 14 N. Main Street. 

He is survived by his wife, Gale; sister Lana Gail and husband, Bob Hoffer of Houston; 2 step-brothers: Ben and wife, Laree Morgan  and Don Morgan of Austin.
