The Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Richard Lee Sampson, Jr. (Ricky) will be held May 28 at VFW Post 3892 in Harker Heights.

Sampson earned his eagle rank in January of 2016.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must complete 21 merit badges demonstrating key life long skills.

Ricky’s favorite merit badge to earn was wilderness survival.

The Scout must also complete a complex Eagle Project.

For his project, Ricky built and installed bat houses for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at area lakes. The houses provide a safe place for bats to nest. Bats are beneficial for help in insect population control.

Ricky currently attends Salado High School and will graduate on June 4. After high school Ricky plants to join the Navy.

Proud family members include his parents Richard and April Sampson; grandparents Billy and Faye Azbell, Bruce Sampson, Gary and Judith Malar, Gary and Carol Casey; great-grandmother Doris Azbell ,and Siblings Joe Sampson, Haylee and Christopher Norman. Ricky’s late great-grandfather Billy Lee Azbell, Sr. also achieve the rank of Eagles Scout.
