Salado Eaglebots Team 3743 placed 10th in the Houston Lone Star Regional FIRST Robotics competition April 9, as the smallest team in the top 10.
The Robonauts, composed of members from five different schools in the Clear Creek area that work with engineers and volunteers from NASA, won the event. They were world champions last year.
The Pink Team, composed of five different high schools in Cocoa Beach, Florida, placed second. They were able to use NASA facilities to build their robot.
High Voltage, composed of five different high schools from Pasadena, Texas, placed third.
Salado lost in the quarterfinal match against the number one seed.
The team is coached by Patti Turk and Catherine Parker.
“Ed Nelson, our engineering and design mentor, worked countless hours and helped our kids build a robot that could compete with such high budget schools,” according to Turk.
SHS Eaglebots are the following: Megan Daniell, Cayli Diaz, Zachary Garmong, Harrison Glaze, Joe Dillan Kelley, Zachary Moreno, Marc Olivares, Samantha Peter, Sabrina Spakes, Lance Spakes, Benjamin Sunshine, Nathaniel Sunshine, Tanner Vandeplas and Aaron Wilkerson.
