Salado Eagles are 3-0 in district play after beating the Burnet Bulldogs 4-1at home on April 2, a game that was postponed from the day before due to rainy weather.
Salado needed only five hits to plate four runners in the effort.
Garrett Lightfoot scored in the second inning for Salado. He walked to lead off the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Grant Taylor. Jacob Wilk clobbered the ball to deep right to bring Lightfoot home.
Philip Ellis and Preston Payne were both hit by the pitcher, loading the bases, but Hunter Reagor was able to strike out the next batter to get out of the inning with three runners on base.
Ryan Dunnahoo walked and went to second on a fielders choice. An error on fielding a short to right by Wilk allowed Dunnahoo to score in the third inning for a 2-0 lead for the Eagles.
Ellis led off the fourth by hitting a single to deep left. He advanced on a single by Payne and went to third on a passed ball. Drew Dobbins laid down a short grounder to third base that score Ellis and moved Payne to third. Payne scored on a single to left by Cody Wolf.
Burnet’s only run came in the sixth inning. Steven Gallardo led off with a single and went to second on a passed ball. A groundout by Reid Dalrymple moved Gallardo to third. He scored on a sacrifice fly to the right fielder by Dylan King.
Wolf pitched all seven innings for the Eagles. He allowed four hits and one run. He struck out five batters and walked one. Wolf is 5-0 on the mound for the Eagles. He has an ERA of 1.19 and has struck out 41 batters in seven appearances on the mound.
